which cams produce most power: HKS 280's VS Comp Cam 280's
Car has the following mods:Tanabe 2.75 DP, full 3”exhaust w/ Magnaflow resonator & muffler, GFB Stealth BOV, Injen intake & UICP, 255 fuel pump, Forge Uno’s MBC & Dynoflash CT. Billet Design will be installing an o2 Housing & header combo then Al will be installing cams & re-tuning the car.
Which cams will produce the highest usable torque & HP from 1000 rpms to redline(7300-7800), HKS 280’s vs. 272’s, which Turbo Trix website states only produce 25 HP, VS Comp Cams 280, which they stated produce 40 HP. I’m trying to make the wisest decision as to which cams will produce the best results with the supporting mods that the car has.

I put down 347hp and 352trq back in Dec at 22psi with the HKS 280's. Other mods were a BR turbo back no cat and custom Dynoflash. I thought the specs were the same for HKS and Comp. I'm probably wrong though.

Did you loose any thing down low? How do you like your car with the 280's compared to before they were installed? Why did you go with the 280's over the 272's and would you recommend them?

well.. according to turbotrix' website http://turbotrix.com/isthebest/custo...cat=195&page=1 the Comp cams make more power on their dyno than the HKS. There is a fair amount of information on this site in regards to the different cam options out there.

Yes you lose low end compared to stock or even 272s. I love their lumpy idle and top end. IMHO the 280s are highway cams that live in the upper rpms and I made my peak hp near 7000rpm. I have friends with HKS 264s and 272s with similar setups and they hang till 5th and then its all over. What are you looking for exactly with your cam setup? If you have someone near by ask for a ride. I'm up in CT or I would.

i also have the comp 280's. They make great power. i got a couple of buddies with hks 272, and 280's and i make a 20hp more up top. u just have to live with rough idle, and stalling sometimes.

Utah-evo,
I just added 18x8.5 5Zigens(soon to be polished) w/255/35/18 Goodyear F-1's. Car is going to get Tein S-techs added next week.
Robinson,
Why are 280's nuts? Do you know something we don't?

daefoe69,
What about 2nd, 3rd & 4th gear, how do they feel? I'm pretty sure with Al tuning the car that the idle wont be an issue and the o2 & header combo ought to help it thru out the powerband. I just don't want to giv up any performance from 1200-4000 rpms to gain it up top, as I rarely am able to run above 135. I want to be able to pull Corvettes etc.by several car lengths.
I raced a Gallant VR4 w/ a big exhaust & turbo yesterday and pulled him by two cars in 4th(of course this didn't occur on a public road) gear, never had to shift into 5th.
