The "redneck engineering" solution for a coupler that keeps blowing off like that is to spray the pipe with hair spray before putting on the coupler and tightening it down..... acts like spray glue and holds great, but it is water soluble if you ever need to get it apart.... I am a former DSMer, can you tell?

I use that trick all the time, learned it from a DMS'er

Excellent runs for the first time out. Can't wait to see the results with more practice and better weather.

That's actually the 'metrosexual' solution. The redneck method calls for tobacco juice.

Looking at the 60' time, trap speed, and ET compared to my 11.5 second time slip with virtually identical trap speed and 60' time I can say one thing.... he probably shifted into 5th gear! I would bet that 1/8 mile trap speed was in the very high 90's or perhaps 100 mph, but the redline limits from the stroker motor may be forcing the shift to 5th, and that costs a lot of MPH at the top end of the track. Time for a short ratio JDM spec 5 speed, or a 6 speed swap with it's shorter 5th gear ratio.

I agree... that mph is extremely low for the pass and power levels so he must have gone to 5th. Should he had stayed in 4th I would assume he would be at around 129 mph. I believe it is 5 speed tranny so Im not sure why the need for the shift though. My car has the stock head and stock block and I have no problems riding mine to hit 129+ traps in 4th gear. Get more brave damnit!

I was there, good run Tom, that thing is a monster nodoubt. It was way too hot out there. I'm pretty sure if it was colder he'll be in the 10s NP. what was really funny is that i got kick off the track because i was using my IC sprayer. WTF

Smog is running a stroker motor, so he is keeping RPM's down a bit as is to be expected when compared to a 2.0

When I trap at almost 124 in my car I am crossing the finish line at around 130 mph, right at 8000 RPM (as you know, trap speed is your average speed over the last 66 ft of the track). I speculate that he is shifting at around 7,500 RPM. Even if he pushed each gear to 8,000 he would be hitting 130 mph quite a ways befor the finish line with as much power as he is making now, and would still need to make the shift into 5th gear.

Fuel was C-16 of course and 124mph trap speed was at the top of 4th in 100+ temps(according to Smoggy). Remember this is a stroker motor so lower Ets can be accomplished with lower trapspeeds due to the tq advantage. My hypothesis for the low trap speed is the Ecu pulled timing on the top end(heat kills). It was so hot I can't see how he could of trapped much higher. I was impressed that he did not blow the thing up to tell u all the truth. When the temps go down, we can really get an idea of this Car's potential.

We took the forecasted weather into account so the tune is not on kill. No worries about it grenading Ronnie T, but as always thanx for the support.
