Whining issue

I have a 2003 EVO i bought this car a week ago used.
mods that is on the car;

greddy lower pipe, and up pipe
HKS evc
Hks intake
walbro 255
264 intake/exhaust cams
S-afc 2

my issue is when i hit positive boost, there is a whine coming from the engine, but still pulls strong, I had Luis from forge look at the car, thought maybe the turbo went bad, so we replaced the turbo with another stock turbo, changed the BOV and still making the loud wine but this time instead of 0 the whine start its at .4/5 the whine is starting, and I was hitting 1.4/5 bars at WOT boost now im hitting 1.2 at wot.

so today went over jason's house who has a MR, we jacked up the car, the lower pipes look good, fixed a coupler, took out the hks intake put in his intake, took out the HKS controller, and put in his Forge boost controller, and swapped out the hoses for the boost controller, AND STILL making the whine noise.. the whine noise can refer to as a tea pot at full boil or a jet engine starting to take off..

right now we are at a lost for what else it could be, we are going to do a compression test on the pipes when he gets the smaller coupler that fits over the tubo to check the piping..

if there are any other ideas please advise

thanks

I say get a second opinion. tranny and TC are different drainplugs. you can drain the TC, refill it, and see if the sound is less. I still say TC.

Luis said it was a "Bad turbo" also, and it WASN'T. How much weight are you going to put into him saying "Its NOT the TC?"

I had mine start 150 miles after a clutch install. it was just coincidence, but it was my TC. With the O2 housing, maybe something is with the turbo, but I don't know. the case here, is he was told it was the turbo, they swapped it, and it came back, my stance on his scenario, is it is NOT the turbo, but the TC in this case.

Sounds like a boost leak. If it sounds like high pitched air under wot then do a compressor test. It sucks... but rig one up and check for leaks.

My car had a grinding sound that was pretty loud only around 3K RPM, at the onset of boost (i.e. part throttle). Turns out it was the ORC carbon-carbon clutch making noises and it went away after a while.

a used 03 EVO?

More than likely the TC... especially since you bought it modded, for all you know, the previous owner ran that car like a honda, and wore that puppy out. Mine was sounded like that too. I have a friend with the same issue... his has been doing it since 30k miles... he has 42k on the now... still runs fine.... just whines loud.

I sent mine to shep. might wanna start savin for somthing along those lines now.

Well if you could see what his old one looked like you would say the same thing, and it did have a bad front seal! And it's not the TC If it was the TC it would make noise Accelerating and decelerating and the noise would come from under the car not from under the hood this noise is only under Boost and at that at 1.0 to 1.5 Bar. So no it’s not the TC.

The previous owner is on these forums, I bought the car from a dealership, and Luis had said he worked for the same company I work for ironically, So Luis gave me his number, so we can resolve this issue, best place to start is the previous owner, so the owner said that he drove to work one day it was fine, got back in his car to go home, and he went WOT merging onto an on ramp and he heard the noise..

Alright, my bad. I don't get the Bar stuff, its PSI for me! you are right, on my car, the TC sound started at a certain "speed", and was NOT related to boost, but some hear the noise under "boost", when in actuallity, it is the "speed" of the car while under boost. I would like to know how this turns out, and in trying to visualize what is said, in "cyberland" is rough, I guess if you saw it, and it looked like a duck, and quacked like a duck, well...............

Keep up posted. On a side note, I cracked my "stock" IC pipes on the INSIDE, and had a "boost leak" which was silent. It was the one that goes around the battery. pull it off and squeeze the middle, and see if it is "weak or gushy".
