Thumbs up Just installed HKS 280/280

Hey guys!! Installed my Set of HKs 280's Lastnight! BLED the lifters as instructed t by the forums, and it worked out just fine. The bleeding process was really weird at first, but from there on out, it came pretty natural. Took me a while to do, mainly because i would be looking back and forth from my lap top, to the car. I had my computer sitting right on top of the strut bar.

Special Thanks to everyone on here who helped out. I figured out how to do everything with the install with my new bestfriend, the SEARCH button.

Finished the install, triple checked everything (which is why it too me more time)
Put the key in the ignition, took a deep breath, and turned the key. YES!! success! Heard the usual tick after a cam install for some seconds, watched the needle sloooowly make its way towards operating temperature. decided to clean up while the car warmed up. As i was outting tools away, i heard the HKs monsters take over. VERY lumpy idle!! sounds real nice tho with the Megan TBE.

Havn't had a chance to beat on it yet. Took her for a quickie, and Treated myself to two tacos from jack in the box when i finished, but I drove regular. Is any break in needed on cams? maybe drive a few hundred mile on them first, then re-check torque specs before having some fun? or is it good to go? My best friend didnt give me an answer on that. I guess its time to send my ECU back out.

I wouldnt beat on it until u tune it. Sure u might get away with no tune and u will see gains but its risky. Dont risk it, dont drive hard until u tune it! IMO

I dont understand how he could be lean. Would the ecu make up for any additional airflow by adding fuel automatically. Most people that I have talked to have said that they barely had to re-tune their maps after a cam install. If anything just some added fuel when the A/C is on

Go for it.

Congrats on the install. Always feels good when you are able to do things on your own. No break in needed, go for it. I would not expect for the car to drive all that great since the idle is going to be off. send the ECU in for a reflash but until that happens drive like you stole it.

Hey guys!! sorry its the end of the day. Been busy. work and a wife. FULL TIME JOBS!!

Hey guys, forgot to mention i think, but i have an Evo8. I dont believe the Evo 9 guys are havin a whole lot of luck right now running a 280 intake and 280 exhaust due to the mivec. From what i read tho, there are Intake and Exhaust cams out now for the 9. dont know about 280s tho...

Sorry, lol. moving on...

Well, I have a flash from AL already on the car, so as far as running lean, i think im ok. The flash i have now was set up for all the mods on the car, minus these 280s. of course tho, im going to be sending the ECU back to AL for an update since the cams are in. That flash was pure sex the first time, so im sure the results this time will be SWEEEET!!

Idle is awesome. You dont notice it too much if you leave the windows down, and have the radio on, aside from your Booty cheeks gettin a nice little surge through them. As if everyone doesnt look at an evo enough, they double and TRIPLE look that **** all the time now. The car drive GREAT tho. Normal street driving is a breeze.

Now for the fun.... Took it for a nice 3rd and 4th gear pull today. AMAZING! The feeling you get when boost first hits stay consistant all the way to Redline. I usually drive like a granny, but when i go run it on occassion, i shift at 7k. Took it slightly farther to 7300rpm. RPM shot up to redline quicker than Im used to, but was awesome. 5th gear now, feels how my 4th gear used to feel prior to the cam install. The car is actually more fun to drive. Looks like my R1 is taking a back seat for a few days.

All in all, im very happy with them. Makes me wish i did them sooner, which would mean my ECU woulda been all set up for them, but rome wasn't built in a day.

The only down side i find to these cams, is When you're next to, or in the general area of a cop. It idles so mean, they gotta know whats up with it. Sooo.. it does make you a little paranoid. correction. a LOT paranoid. But... those are the breaks.

Hey guys. Funny story. I was at a stoplight, and these two guys in an 06 STI rolls down Their windows next to me and say "GEEZUS christ! That thing sounds Fast as hell." And gives me a thumbs up.

Anyway, yes i will get a sound clip up as soon as possible Im waiting until in have some time to send my ECU back to AL for an updated program on it. Im kinda scared. A friend of mine had some 272's, sent his ECU to AL, anmd when he got it back, the idle was waaaaaay more subtle, and smooth. Couldnt really tell he had some cams in there, but the performance gain he got was unbelievable!!! Of course, the gains are the most important here, but c'mon, it cool hearing cams do what they do at idle.

As i said, the ECU wont be going out for a little bit. Need so Figure out which Turbo manofild I'd like to go with, as well an an 02 housing. While im at it tho, im going to Throw on that Brand new IX Turbo I've got sitting in the house.
