Plug Life on Leaded Gas?

Hi All -

Just looking for a little input on how long your plugs typically last when running solely leaded fuel, C16 in particular.

20 miles? 500 miles? 10 drag passes? 10 gallons? However you want to quantify it is fine with me.

I have tried several different plugs (BR8ES and BPR8EIX) with no real difference in performance or longevity of plugs. I have tried it with the stock ignition, Sun ignition box, and a COP system with no difference in performance or longevity of plugs. I am getting about 1-2 autocrosses and 50 miles of street driving before they start to sputter and misfire under boost.

Thanks!

BTW, I have gone through over 100 gallons of C16 this year and my AEM UEGO wideband is still reading pretty accurate.

Backgrund: My car is a daily driver, and I go to the track once or twice a week. I completely drain the gas tank, add 5 gallons leaded race fuel, the pump it all out when I'm done racing and put the pump gas back in.

I used to get ~10k miles of street driving running C16 or Sunoco 117 once or twice a week for 5-8 passes each trip out of BPR7ES plugs. This applied to both the DSM and the EVO. I since switched to BR8ES plugs and I'm finding the same thing you are. They work great the day they are installed, but within a few weeks tey start to act up. For me though they still seem to work under boost (I don't run much though, ~22 psi daily), but sputter and drive like hell before the motor is fully warmed up. In light of this, I may switch to BR7ES plugs. I believe the bulk of the gain we get is from the non-projected tip, not so much the heat range, a least at my current level of tune/mods. BR7ES should still keep the side electrodes from self destructing and taking out motors like it's thier job, but maintain a decent self cleaning temperature. I'm going to make the switch this week...

I have run 110 LEADED thru my car, thru my stock 02 sensor, and the AEM UEGO A/F 02 sensor for 31,000 CONTINUOUS miles (Yes, thirty one thousand)!!! That is when I had more money they brains!! it was 3.50 per gallon, about the price now of 89 unleaded . I got it directly from the dragstrip in 5 gallon drums. I saw NO ill effects of any sensor or anything. quit that 10K miles ago, and run pump/meth now. still have the ORIGINAL 02 sensors. play with the gaps a bit. I went thru alot also, the copper is SOFT. Original gap, .021, then 3K miles later, change the plugs, and the gap is UP TO .030.

In those miles, I dragraced/roadraced/autoxed, and even got groceries with it!!
