exedy twin issues ??

guys with the exedy twin (non carbon). does anyone else get these problems. sometimes when pulling away from a stop if i shift at under 3500 prms first gear feels like its sticking. it doesnt come out smooth or easy. also sometimes i can't get it into gear without forceing it in.its like im locked out of all the gears? i have ajusted the hell outta the pedal and to boot i just had the new shep trans put in. this is the same problem i was having before with act and tre trans deal i just went through. at the drag strip it does fine. its acting as tho at low rpms or from a stop its not fully disengaging (sp). im sick and tired of ajusting the pedal up and down. any mechanics out there know what else could be causing inconsistant shifting issues? i even swapped out the short shifter for the stock one to see if that helped. (only kind of ) thanx for any imput or advice.

Sounds to me like 1 of your disc's is "binding/sticking" on input shaft, thus not allowing it to fully dis-engage,or "drag".This is a somewhat common problem on a twin disc clutch, regardless of manufacture.this is because the input shaft never has a single disc clutch ride down as far on it as a twin disc does and most people never first put disc's on input shaft prior to installing to make sure that there will be no binding.
Also, occassionally when installing trans the installer has difficulty and allows trans to hang when input shaft is only through one of the disc's and will slightly damage disc.
Just some points to consider when attempting to diagnose your problem as I have seen all of the above happen on quite a few peoples cars when brought to me with your above said problem. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with my Exedy twin HD. The clutch feels like its sticking when I shift at low rpm. I push in the clutch, and the car feels like its still in gear. Then when you try to change gears, it feels locked in -like your trying to shifting without using the clutch. If you wait a few seconds, it will "un-stick" on its own. It only happens at low rpm -especially after you slow down/brake while in gear. It never happens when shifting aggressively and/or at high rpm.

Sound familiar?

I tried posting about it, and didn't get much response. Maybe I'll call Exedy and see what they have to say.

In the meantime, to avoid the problem, I blip the throttle after I push in the clutch (right before I shift). This always "unsticks" the clutch and allows you to shift smoothly.

turboDan summed up the two most common problems... pedal adjustment a side.

ecactly to the "T". i find that if i lift slightly on the shifter it wont stick either. lame a$$ way to shift in stop and go traffic though.

I'm in stop/go every day. Reving between shifts is the easiest way I found to deal with it.

I'm not sure what to think about that post. I had a reputable shop (who work on a lot of Evos and do a lot of clutch jobs) do the install. Of course, its still possible that they made mistakes during the install, but on the other hand it would be in Exedy's best interest to say it's due to improper installation.

Maybe the burring that they found in the clutch splines (which causes the clutch sticking) wasn't an install issue, but rather something that comes/goes due to a design flaw. Even the poster said that sometimes the clutch didn't stick for 3 months.
