i just changed my spark plugs to bpr7es and i gapped them at around .028. my car is mostly stock with a tbe,drop in and that's it. after i finished installing them i turned the car on and the rpm raised all the way to like 2500 and dropped back down to 300 then it went back up and idled around 900. the idle seems smoother than b4. also when im driving now the exhaust is louder but it rides smooth. is that suppose to be normal? hmm what are signs of misfire? first time i changed plugs on a evo so im sorta clueless.

 

well, it's normal to me. but double check makesure the sparkplugs are tighten correctly. Not too tight and not too loose. You should of gap them .022mm-.024mm. Also makesure the connectors are clean of debris and snap all the way in. Makesure your spark plugs wire are seating properly.

 

Normal dont worry. Like vboy said just go back over everything if you worried. torque them to 18ftlbs if you can

 

i dont have a torque wrench and when i took the old plugs out 2 of them came out really easy and 1 of them was really tight. i just tightened them until it was tight but not too tight.

 

Are the plugs/gap the same for the IX? I remember going to a parts store looking for them and they said they wouldn't work in the 2006 and that there were totally different plugs for the mivec engine. I've searched around but not found much conclusive about the IX as far as plugs are concerned and Mitsu wants a fortune for them.

If your worried about misfiring. When the car is cold crank it up and put your hand near the exhaust. You should feel a off beat exhaust pulse. If it happens you'll know it. After it warms up test it again and feel for the same thing. You should also be able to hear it. Its pretty noticable off beat exhaust pulse. It can also happen under load while driving, but that you'll just have to listen for. Also i believe if you have a misfire in the Evos it will eventually throw a CEL because misfires produce more emissions, so they want the engine to be as clean as possible. If anyone else can clear that up it be appriacted.

 

Also from what ive seen lots of people have had good luck with the BPR7Es, but its always recommended to stick with OEM if at all possible. Im an auto tech student and all of my teachers have tried the fancy platinum tipped plugs and aftermarket plugs in general and had problems. I personally have also had great luck with the NGKs in my old 240, but im gonna try to stick with OEM ones if i can afford it when it comes time.

 

Do not put platinum plugs in a turbocharged car. Youll regret it. Use I use the Copper BPR7ES gapped to .026 no missfire codes. You can use the irridiums if you want but in my experience the coppers make my car run way smoother

 

damn i have no idea if im getting any misfire but my car is throwing a code. but it threw a code after i put the UR test pipe on so i dont think it has to do with the spark plugs..i've been driving with the engine light on for about a week now. does it affect me in anyway or it doesnt?

 

Just to make sure. Don't overtighten the plugs. Finger tighten with just the socket itself, then do 1/2 a turn with the wrench.
