For some reason when I had everything connected and cranked the car up the only thing that lit up on the S-AFC were the buttons. And the car was running like ****. Any ideas why I get button lights and nothing on the display?


I used an xacto to expose the wire so I could connect to it but I did not solder the wires. I did make 100% sure that there was connectivity, then used electrical tape. I know, that may be the problem. I doubt it though. Could it be a bad ground? Brown wire goes into the ECU but there is also a black wire, another ground. I had it gounded to a piece of metal that is screwed into a piece of plastic. Bad ground? It doesn't take rocket science to hook this up.

Quick question. Wouldn't the RPM and Speed monitor work if the A/F wire was not connected to the S-AFC? I hooked just those 2 and started the car up and had just the button lights.

 

Both the brown wire **AND** the black wire are to be grounded to the ECU Ground wire.. one has to be closer to the ECU, the other is further away (I forget which) It will affect how the device works if its improperly wired (as you found out)

And the reason why it runs like **** is because its not getting any MAF sensor info.. so its running open loop..

 

and you have to have a solid connection.. solder or splice connectors, but solder is MUCH MUCH Better.. no corrosion to worry about over time, or connections coming loose..
