Glad to hear it. I too changed all the fluids Diffs, tranny and t-case to the Royal purple its some awesome stuff. Other than the norm my oil was very dirty in the tranny, but no shavings. I haven't had any more problems of course I got a new tranny, and put in a new ACT clutch at 28K its drives like I expect it too.

Personally, I have no tranny noise at all. It's scary to see so many Evo owners having problems with tranny noise. The noise is not normal in my opinion. If it was normal, then we would ALL have it. I expect a recall or some similar action in the somewhat near future. I hope that all of you with this problem get it resolved!!!

I think all the trouble with the 5Spds is why they were quick to put the 6Spds in the MR's. We were just testing it for them.

That is pretty much how I feel. From every video I see of other countries' EVO VIII, everyone else has the 6spd. Maybe the US is the dumping ground. Give it to the American's they won't care. The just want the EVO VIII to come over. Maybe they don't know that we can count beyond 5. I just think that it is silly. The 350Z and STi are 6spd.

Hopefully, the dealership will call me today. I need my car back. Hopefully the paint will match, and the klancking noise will be gone.

At speed push in the clutch and listen to all the noise the Yokahama AO-046's make! That noise is not drive train related with the clutch in, its the tires. Loudest I have ever heard on high performance tires. Maybe someone could chime in who have changed to a different tire make.

My Advans were loud, and hard to keep balanced. I have the Falken ZE-512 245/45/17.

is this noise, like a noise that's similar to when you reverse?

And does it happen on decel in gear under 3000 rpm? and not on higher RPM? or when you're accelerating?

I've been told that high performance trannies tend to whine more. Something to do with how the teeth are. A friend of mine just put higher performance gearset in his wrx and it went from quiet to whiney. (he previously blew 3rd gear with clutch and hp upgrade) His tranny sounds like mine now....a little whiney .

Yes it's very normal.....if it's whining your ok.....it's a Rally Car remember so the tranny is a little more beefy than say a GEO Metro. The reason they whine is the type of gears they have and how they are cut (angle). When they mesh together they make that cool sound!! If your tranny is really quiet I might wonder. The STi tranny is really whiny...I love those!

Unhappy Transmission Woes

All I can say is good luck to you. I had the exact same symtoms and took my car in. All of my gears are toast even though I was only having problems with 4th and 5th. I'm so frustrated with this piece of #$%^ that I'm about to just let the bank have it. Yes I've modified it, but yes I know how to drive a F7=&*() clutch. My advice, don't take it in as it can't get any worse. Also, tell your mechanic to look at all the gears. I had my reverse fixed not less than 3 months ago and they didnt even check this out. Parts? 3500.00.

Hope I'm wrong but you sound like you have teh exact same thing ive got.

Good Luck!

Mine whines like a ****!! I have the same whinning as first gear but in 3,4,5 from 3k-4k then the sound disapears. That **** is annoying as hell and it drives me crazy. Some of my friends Evo's dont do it at all except 1st and the other do it but barely audible. Mine is a little louder and it gets louder under heavy loads and high speeds but then again it goes away. Dont know why mine is so loud?? I had a mitsu tech tell me its b/c my tires are worn out and it causes it to be louder. We will see about this when i change my tires soon. I think its BS. Ive already called TRE, Shepherd, AMS, Turbo Trix and no one can give me an explanation. John from TRE was most helpful. And before you ask, no its not the TC
