Coil on plug questions
Coil on plug questions
I have been chasing a misfire issue around for a long time now and think I have it narrowed down to my coil on plug set up. I have the older Buschur racing unit ( just the coils and 1g ignitor) and when I hook it up to my scan tool (lab scope) I have noticed something odd. Coils for cylinders 1 and 2 will go to ground just before ignition while the coils cylinders 3 and 4 do not ground out prior to ignition. I am fairly certain that coils for cylinders 1 and 4 are grouped together and the coils for cylinders 2 and 3 are grouped together. So I am confused as to why coil 1 would ground while coil 4 does not. Of course the same holds true for coils 2 and 3. I also measured the voltage at the DSM igniter and found the signals that come out of the ignitor in fact ground out as well. I was wondering if someone could PM me a wirring diagram for this set up as I would love to resolve this problem.

I had the same damn problem, and took off my buschur ignition and went back to stock and problem solved, Dave I think took the email I sent him in reguard to this issue wrong and told me it would cost me 800 bucks for the new set up they offer, and all I wanted was wiring help because there is somthing obiously wrong with these units because everone I know who has them has problems with them and took them off. It is NOT my MSD box so where is the problem....
Well its nice to see Im not the only one that had this problem. I can physically see what the problem is with the lab scope, I just was wondering if its a simple rewire fix or if there is something just wrong with the combination. I guess I need to make a trip to the junkyard to get a set of new connectors, I cant seem to find the old ones I cut off so I can patch my stock ignition back in.
Bump just in case someone else has this ignition and doesnt need the factory plugs they snipped off(plug that leads from the engine harness) and is willing to sell them.

Ended up putting the stock ignition back on the car, no missfire, thanks to all that helped. Ended up finding the stock wire plug, just had to pop in new pins and solder them with longer leads ( I cut them too short when I put in my COP igniion). Just in case anyone destroyes the pins inside the plug like I did, the pins off a galant turn signal are the same as the evo ignition pins..........1 hour at the junk-yard turns up interesting.........well junk.
