Reflash and Boost controller add 60whp??
Reflash and Boost controller add 60whp??
Well i have a Evo 9 and i was talking to the owner of Speed Gallery who also has a evo 9 and he was trying to convince me to reflash ( tune ) my car but i said i dont want to loose my warrenty and he said O you wont loose your warrenty until you tell them you reflashed it and that there is no way of mitsu finding out ... he also told me if he does the tune and a MBC set at the 1.4 bar that ill get gauranteed 60hp to the wheels .. does anyone know if there is any truth to this or was he just saying it to get me to do it. He is charging me 600 for the tune and 200 for the boost controller with installation. Please let me know if i sould do it
He is ripping your off price wise, but yes you could get up to 60 whp in a IX from just a mbc and a tune.
And for the 2005/2006 Evos, the factory CAN see the flash on your ecu, but it is simple to get around that. Take a look around the EcuFlash forum, you will find out what i am talking about.

If the guy is trying to convince you to do it, I wouldn't. In my opinion, he is trying to make money there. Talk to a reputable tuner here on EVOM and see what they have to say.

Guaranteed 60whp? No way. Is it possible and even likely? Yes, but not at stock boost levels. 1.4 bar is only 20.3psi, which is the stock peak boost. On IXs, you make big power by upping the boost significantly along with the reflash, because it is capable of handling higher boost levels on pump gas (yes, even 91oct). I think you will get 40whp with a reflash and MBC, but the prices are way too high. The MBC should cost $85 (Forge UNOS or Hallman Pro), the install is less than an hour ($40-50?), and the flash should be $400 or so using EcuFlash. Some places charge even less, since EcuFlash software is FREE, meaning the tuner has no overhead costs to do your tuning other than a one-time purchase of the $90 flashing cable.
I suggest doing a TBE with the mbc and flash, but if you're really worried about the warranty, then I would recommend doing _0_ mods. Yes, Mitsu can run a test to see if the ECU has been reprogrammed on your IX, but they can't see what has been changed unless they know how about EcuFlash and use it themselves. However, you could always flash yourself back to stock if you got EcuFlash yourself and kept a copy of your stock ROM.

Some shop will tell an outrageous amount of WHP that you'll get to get your business. But after they tuned it and you don't make as much hp as they say. Then they'll probably tell you that every car is different and that some make more and some make less.
Well around here every one is charging a lot for reflash.. when i had my bmw they wanted 900 to reflash with a added 30hp so i was thinking 600 was cheap and he said installation of the boost controller was like a hour n a half job so bout 150 installation n 50 for the controller but i guess i got to bargain with him.. im pretty good at that i got my IX SE from 36K down to 32K and they took the dealer mark up off so ill see if i can get the reflash for 4 bills. He said his evo was set to the 1.4 bar and he saw that much power increase.

No, flashes aren't randomly expensive in your area. There are multiple Evo flash tuners in your area that charge way less. you can't compare what a flash costs on a BMW or any other platform. $600 is very expensive for an Evo flash, because EcuFlash is FREE SOFTWARE. The only reason to pay $600 anymore is if you get an EcuTek flash due to the license cost, but even then, there's no reason to pay for the license.
Your MBC shouldn't cost $50 - be sure you're actually getting a good one. Also, the installation is no more than 45 minutes, and that's IF they don't know what they're doing. Even if they charge a high rate per hour like $80, that would only be $60 for labor.

Well can you tell me any other places that do the flash for cheaper.. i also know someone with a acura RSX type S and his reflash was pretty expencive to but nvm that if its not to much trouble can you tell me acouple of shops around LA thatll do it for cheaper and the boost controller was tha same one he had on his car and he was the owner of the shop and its a pretty big shop so i douth he'll put cheap **** on it. Im guessing this expencive because of the name around LA Speed Gallery is everywhere majority of their cars are porches and in LA if you take your car to F1 motorsports or Platinum Motorsports they are going to charge you wayyyy more tha if you took it to GT concepts But hey if you can tell me a place that does it cheaper i aint complainin
I don't care what he uses on his car - he is not an Evo shop that we know of or have heard of. Find out what it is, and if it's not a Forge UNOS or Hallman Pro, then don't get it.
How far are you from Tuning Technologies. That's where I'd go if I were you, but I don't know the distances from LA to the major Evo shops. There are several, though. Just do a little research here on EvoM.

Just look at the stg1 package in my sig. That's a full 3" turboback exhaust, mbc, gauge, pod, and flash for $1270 shipped. You were paying $800 for just the mbc and flash including a 45-min installation but no gauge, pod, or TBE.
