Modifacations to the block to fit 2.3 crank

So my engine builder just called me saying that they needed to modify the case to fit my stroker kit.

BTW they left a message now i cant get ahold of them. I think this is total bs though i've never herd of anyone having to modify anything for a 2.3 kit.

Case???? If you mean block, then yes, they may have to bore it out unless you got a stock bore kit. Only other issue you could have is having to remove the balance shafts completely if the won't clear the rods during movement.

On my AMS 2.3 stroker, the block is notched for the big **** Oliver rods

I wouldn't sweat it.

You need to drill it to 85.5mm (95% of the times)

Also might need a line honing (5% of the times)

Always remove the balance shafts, you don't need them. The little extra vibrations wont' make any harm. When removed you will get slightly hight oil pressure and a easier reved engine and no risk of the rods touching them.

Make sure they do it the right way directly so you don't have to re-do it all again.

As you can see from the above, some rods have a different (larger) big end configuration than others. If the rotating assembly won't rotate due to insufficient clearance, you have to either modify the block or the rods by grinding the necessary clearance. This is more common with making a "2.3" from a 2.0 than if you start with a 2.4 block that is already built for the 100mm stroke crank.
