Al - I'm assuming you are/were neck deep in drag racing; how long have you been a fan of Cosworth
If you notice what they did for the ESX Drag WRX in the past season then you would know that they are into the drag scene also !

I am going to put a set of their cams and heads in my STI as soon as I can afford it

Every week!! If I had a cossie head sitting around it would be taking my girlfriends spot next to me as I sleep.

Personally i am not putting anything else on my engine except cosworth parts...

I know Cosworth inside-out... In Greece and the UK that i lived for 4 years, i literally grew up with the Ford Sierra and Escort Cosworths... Insane machines... Until know they are HIGHLY competitive on the streets and tracks...and remember we are talking engines made back in 1986-87...

Good test Al... keep on testing...

Reputation of a company is a rough guide but there is so much more to look into. More important is actual quantification or at least qualification of component properties. Outside of the factors that decide cam structural integrity - design, material, forming process, heat treat, depth of heat treat - factors that determine power, are much simpler to quantify and copy. These factors are base circle size and lobe design and phasing. If you scanned a few of the top cams including Cosworth, and if there were really a huge performance difference resulting from Cosworth's lobe design, what was causing it would be made apparent. I really doubt that there is anything great about a cosworth cam, vs other top cams. If there is, it is going to be copied very quickly and sold for much less. Even a high quality one off direct copy can be had for less than Cosworth sells their cams at. It's just the way the business works. Anything that can be seen to be an advantage and that isn't patented is going to be copied. Technology just makes it so easy.

Somewhat related is that people everywhere seem to want to assess component manufacturers by who started the company, who their father was, what type of racing they used to do, what their reputation is, etc. instead of looking hard at the actual component they're about to buy and company they're about to deal with NOW. Companies change management all the time, get bought out, have owners or directors change philosophies, have different divisions that take care of different customers (race vs enthusiast) in different ways, have different levels of quality in components. You have big name piston manufacturers making shelf pistons too flimsy vs their renowned custom race pistons, top level data acquisition and ECU companies that bend over backwards for some top race teams that they're sponsoring to get their name out there, but then treat their non-racing-professional customers poorly because they're too busy pushing the race program.

Cosworth hasn't been involved in Indycar engines for a long time. Cosworth has had engine trouble this year in F1 and has been dropped, so they longer are F1 engine suppliers. They're good, just that F1 budgets are overwhelming the small company. More than good enough to do anything for lesser racing formulae or street cars, but then again, it isn't the same division and people working on the stuff they sell to the public.

They are vastly superior to anything I have seen and the price point is very fair for what you get

retail is $640 and street price is lower
So were the cam specs 272s or 280s?

Very impressive, however I dont see anything having to do with the 4g63 motor, or Mitsu for that matter. Toyota has a pretty impressive resume as well, but I wouldn't go to them for Evo parts.

Nothing against Cosworth, but I think people get a little overhyped because of the name.

And as I remember Cosworth was dropped from F1 because thier motors couldn't finish a race in one piece. I dont want people to get the wrong idea, these cams are very good, but I'd still shop around before you make your decision.

*this post was not directed at you Al, I just wanted to use Cosworth's resume as a quote, so dont take this personally*

If you are trying to sell a product of course you are going to rave about how good they are so your not stuck with dead stock. I personally havent seen any posts about how great these cams except for this one. Maybe they are that good but my money would have to go with probably not but only time will tell. I think the Cosworth cams for the IX are comparable to the S2's that are going to be available from GSC and wont see there full potential until they are on an Evo with the right supporting mods.

I have no relationship with cosworth

I do sell a limited amount of parts and I order a few sets of these cams a couple of months ago for a few customers who expressed an interest

99% of my income is derived from tuning cars

I recomend parts which work and which I feel my customers will be satisfied with

I could sell HKS, JUN, or Buddy Club, Force Performance, Tomie, Comp or any other brand of cam and make the same money or more than on the Cosworth

The fact that I do not stock or promote any of these other cams should be noticed by those who question my motivation

I like HKS cams, I love JUN cams and I think on the IX the Cosworth are very good
