A bad thing happened today. I was cruising along at about 75 in my 2005 EVO 8 RS, slightly modified (cams, clutch,etc.) when a short rrrrrr sound came from the tranny (i think). I let off the gas, hit the clutch, and attempted to downshift. No luck. It refused to come out of 5th and all 4 wheels locked on me just b4 i coasted to a stop. Towed to dealership. Awaiting diags. Any thoughts? Tranny, T-case? Help!

 

 

When was the last time the fluids were changed?

If the wheels locked it sounds like a t-case function. Any noises?

yeah, a very quick noise that sounded like growling, but that's it. as soon as i heard it, i pulled over and the wheels locked. (fun getting it on and off the flatbed In the garage we had it jacked up in the front and i decided to spin the front wheel. It didnt lock and the other one spun in the opposite direction like normal with no sounds, difficulty, etc. They call me today and tell me that its the tranny AND the diff, but i think that they're lying to me.

 

Who cares if they are lying if you get both of those replaced!

 

He never said that he was getting them replaced. I am sure once they saw the upgraded clutch his warranty went out the window. Everyone knows how much Mitsu likes mods.

 

It didn't stop them when I got my trans redone.

well, screw mitsu anyway... its the trans AND the diff.

Brought it to Turbo Trix in Edison, NJ. Getting steel clutch line, racing trans, and quaife diff installed. This is expensive, but at least i now have an excuse ))
