You only hate road salt until you live in a state that gets heavy snow where they are too "environmentally aware" to use salt! Every road in Connecticut becomes a death trap when it snows because they will not use salt. Just one of many reasons to hate the communist republic of Connecticut.

It looks like when you just put a larger housing on a turbo..

Are the turbine/compressor wheels custom?

Actually putting a larger tubine housing on a turbo will generally make it MORE laggy, which is the opposite of what has happened here.

The compressor wheel is custom.

Word. I think they use WAy to much salt around here. **** we only got maybe a 1/2 inch last night and they put enough down to last all winter at this rate! Bastards!!

not always, lets say you are almost out of the efficent range of the turbo, boosting 35psi-45psi.. adding the larger housing frees up that "choke"

I have many dyno sheets to proven what Im saying.

That "choke" as you put it has nothing to do with the lag that will be present during spool up. Increasing the housing or A/R will increase the lag and like you said may free up some topend if it is becoming a restriction. The key is the tradeoff and is it worth it.

So the compressor and turbine housings are the same, just a custom wheel?

do you want to see the dyno graphs?

spool was the same just alot more power through entire powerband.

this isnt the same thing as the full race spec turbo is it?
