The tip of the spark plug broked, need opinions?
No, JR, I don't think that it is normal wear. What I saw was way worn down center electrodes and severe wasting away of the ground electrodes on two of the plugs. The one you say is broken has a small portion or corner of the ground electrode missing, but I think that it wasn't broken off in a single event, rather it was eroded over time. It didn't just break off in other words.
Face it those pugs had had it. They were totally gone. These were the original plugs and they've seen about 40-50 drag races at over 24 psi. Your plugs were just totally worn out, buddy.
Also, these plugs had never, ever even been pulled to at least check their condition. In a way, it's better to use the cheaper, copper plugs like the BPR7ES's or 8's. Why, because they need to be changed more frequently than the iridiums, so it gives you a chance to be monitoring their condition every time you pull them out to change them or regap them.
In your case the worst plug had a .032 gap which is way huge. But who knows for how long they had been like that. You gotta pull them more frequently. BPR ES's are cheaper, so buy a box of 7's or 8's and change them every 2500 miles. Also, you were racing with your daily driving, stock, heat range, high mileage plugs.
Since you drag race alot then maybe you should have a set of race day plugs. Probably 8's or 9's. And just as you go through the ritual before each race of: draining all the pump gas out of your tank and adding VP 109, switching to your high octane, race gas, ECU map, setting tire pressures and etc.....You should also pull out yor high mileage street plugs and install your race specific plugs.
