I would suggest getting a built 5spd with custom gearing from Shepherd Racing (http://sheptrans.com). When 4th gear in my 6spd blew while road racing, this is the path I took. He built me an awesome 5spd with custom gearing for road racing, and I'm loving it. He knows all the parts to get for the conversion, so if you talk to him, he can handle everything for you.

actually, gears 1-3 are larger in the 6-speed, 4-5 are larger in the 5-speed. but overall, for hardcore use(road racing), the 5-speed is the better choice.

Yes and vice versa ... the clutches are almost identical except for the spring ... the 6 speed has a softer spring, compared to the 5 speed.
