replacement front o2 or Wideband

During my o2 housing replacement, my front o2 sensor was broken. I have been searching and know that I can buy an OEM replacement for almost $300. I know about www.oxygensensors.com for a cheaper replacement. My question is can I just go straight to the AEM Wideband UEGO instead of replacing my oem front o2?

Hrm.. from wut i heard the wideband never sends a signal to ur ecu... it just sits in ur exhaust telling a gauge wut the fuel mixture is.. i might be wrong.. but someone should correct me if im wrong.. you will actually need an 02 plugged in to the original harness unless you have some sort of EMS with a full map tune.. w/o maf...

Yeah you need to have an o2 plugged into the front harness unless you are running a standalone. I am running one from owygensensors.com and it is just fine. I replaced my stock one to solve an issue that turned out to tbe tune related not sensor related.

you cannot go straight to the AEM Uego. You need to have a narrowband sensor tied into the factory ECU for your car to run right with your mods. A wideband won't work. The wideband can be in addition to the stock oxygen sensor, but it can't replace it.

Sweet. Thank you for all of your help! I just wanted to make sure if I was going to spend the 300 I would have rather gone straight to Wideband. Thanks again.

yep.. you are going to need to replace your front o2 if you are running factory ECU.. wideband o2 sends signal only to your gauge and not your ECU

i thought i saw someone in this forum was selling their front o2 sensor.. might want to look around... mine broke when i replaced my o2 housing with Invidia unit.. my o2 sensor seized up in stock housing and wouldn't move no matter what... i got an o2 sensor from ebay and wired it up... ran fine ever since..

if i remember right.. the 3000gt vr4 front o2 fits evo...they might be cheaper...

Yea I just saw that someone was selling their o2 sensor. Does anyone know if the o2 sensor for an 03 will match up to an 05, plug and all?? I noticed they happened to be different part numbers online, so I want to make 100% sure. Thanks for all the info!

Some WBO2 units offer a simulated narrow band output. My TechEdge 2A0 is one of them. I recently tried it, and it works as advertised. At idle the response doesn't seem fast enough, but at cruise it works well. I'm assuming this is because of the fact that the sensor is placed in the catback, causing the slight delay that forces the ECU to hunt around a bit with STFT at idle while exhaust gas velocity is low. My front O2 sensor has been just about dead for nearly a year thanks to all the leaded fuel I run (won't cycle until it's at cruise or on the highway). I'm going to move my WBO2 sensor into the O2 housing to see if it reads faster at idle. I suspect this will work just fine. An added side benefit is that my WBO2 unit lets me flash it with a different stoich point if I want to, so even with a stock type ECU (2g ECU with DSMlink in my case) I can still adjust closed loop AFRs, like I can with my AEM. I'm also hoping that I won't keep burning out the heater in my WB sensors with the sensor closer to the turbo...

Moral of the story, if a stock sensor for 300 costs the same as a whole wideband kit, I'd rather have the WB.

That is a good question. Did you see the pic of mine, you could check the plug out to see it matches.

Guys, I just got rid of my 350z, and joint the EVO club. Much nicer car!!!

I have an EVO 9 MR, got HKS exhaust and DC Down pipe, Do I need a turbo housing? How much benefit will I see out of that? It is important to me since I will do all the install at once. Also, Would they crack? What brand to buy and what to stay away from. I like to know.... Thanks.

I also have an aftermarket boost controller, I need to go dyno and figure out where I am after the bolt ons. Does anyone know a good reflash program, or should I just get my dyno shop to retune for me. They told me about Turbo XS product that would come out around April, we would be able to TUNE our ECU each time with that wire plug, works almost like a stand along but cost only around 700. It will be able to remap your ECU at any time... Does anyone know about that???

Help!!!

Jlancer - first, search. Second, don't thread jack. Third, read the rules then go back and read 1 and 2. Fourth, random shops don't just tune you because they have a dyno. They have to have flashing software for the Evo and know how to use it. Regardless, you'd be a fool to use anything besides EcuFlash, which is a free program that we all use. 5 seconds of searching would have told you this...

Rish, there are some that can send a narrowband feed to the ECU and send a wideband feed to your gauge. I just don't know if the UEGO is one of those. Unlike what kjewer said, this would still go in your front o2 housing - it wouldn't be in the cat-back.

All of this sounds exactly like what I said. Was my post unclear? I can edit it if necessary.
