I think people are missing the point about the different use/abuse the individual trannies will undergo. What is good for one individual depending on: climate conditions, shifting conditions, and length of exposure to those conditions will affect forces and temperatures within the tranny and will play a role in what you use and how often you need to change the fluid.

I've been personally using synchromesh in my tranny for over 15,000 miles, and I noticed LESS shavings in my tranny oil than with OEM. I have over 42k on my Evo now and the tranny still shifts like butter. I have used Penzoil/GM Synchromesh in many different DSM transmissions without any issues at all. However if you track your car regularly its probably better to go with Redline or BG II since they are synthetic and have way better high temperature tolerances. I have spoken to Shepracing and TRE and got their opinions on the best fluids for the Evo:

Shep recommends Redline MT-90 (didn't mention a mixture)

TRE recommends-BG Syncroshift II or the OEM 6 speed gear oil (for use in the 5 speed).

I personally have used synchroshift II before, and it is an awesome choice (besides it's high price). Has anyone tried the 6 speed oil before?

I Sent a email to john shepherd heres what it said

Me:

"Hey,

Sorry to bother you again but i have your build tranny in my evo and when i purchased it you told me to run penzoil syncromesh...now on www.evolutionm.net there saying your saying to run redline MT90. So i was just wondering what i should run because trust me when i say i dont want to blow my tranny again!

Email when ever you have a second i know your really busy!"

Pierre

John:

"Mt 90 is the new recommended fluid. Synchromesh works fine the mt 90 is a little thicker so it will protect the gears better on higher horsepower cars."

Thanks
John Shepherd

I have tried the GM stuff and it was a little better than stock. So I wanted to try BGII and had a hard time finding a local vendor. But on their website under vendors it listed my dealership. So I went in to buy a couple of bottles and asked the Evo mechanic why they sell this and he said that when ever they change the 5-speed maybe 6 (I have a 5speed) that they use the BG syncroshift II for all the better qualities mentioned in this thread. Needless to say I have used it ever since. It makes a Huge difference in shifting (except really cold days) and when I change it, it does not look "trashed". Highly recommend

This is probbly a dumb question and has been covered before but im at work and dont have time to read everything, i need to order OEM tranny fluid, but all the local mitsubishi dealers say they do not sell it, they only have it in 5 gallon drums and have to put it in my car themselves. this seems odd, so where does everyone get the oem fluid? thanks alot.

The dealer can get one gallon cans of the OEM fluid. They are just too lazy to buy it. And no, they do not need to put it in themselves.

Got to be Schaumburg Mitsu.
You know AMS have them too. That's where I get mine.

No actually Biggers in Elgin. It must be a common thing if Schaumburg sells it also.

^^ Nah, I not surprised that Elgin carries it since they have the same owner.
