Messed up Air filter
DOnt laugh, please. anyways. I installed the buschur air filter and while doing so I thrashed the honeycomb thing in the maf. I had to throw it away. Should I buy a new one or buy that tornado thing that I have heard a lot of people talk about? Personally I think the tornado is a joke, but some people swear by it. Here is it ishttp://www.tornado-fuelsaver.com/TornadoFuelSaver.asp
Also I am probably just going to get a new honeycomb part. Any clue where to get it? Or do I have to get it from the dealer. What do I tell them?

The honeycomb in the MAF is designed to straighten the airflow, while the tornado is design to produce a swirl of air.
You need to get a new honeycomb. I removed it on my Eclipse and the MAF wasn't reading the airflow properly.
Don't get the tornado because it would throw off the MAF readings.

Good luck getting just the honeycomb. You will have to buy the whole maf to get it. $$$$$. You might be able to get one from a junk yard that has an Evo, but that will be difficult. You might be able to use a AFC with the honey comb out, but you will still have some problems. Anone know of an Evo's that are in a junkyard yet??
Doesn't the honeycomb work with the MAF sensor itself? I don't even see if your car should even be running at this moment. You could probably go a hardware store and find a similar print or just get a thin piece of plastic and try to match it up with a normal honeycomb. Either way good luck man, hope nothing happens to the Evo.

I was told by a shop to remove the honeycomb from the airbox. From what the shop said, it impedes the airflow a bit, and has nothing to do with the MAS. I am not debating with anyone, but my car has been running fine since I took it off.
if i understand corerectly you are talking about the wire mesh on the MAF. if the mesh has been taken out this will not impede performance in any way. the wire mesh is only there to protect teh heating elemnt from leaves and larger debris. and if you read on some other cars tehy actually tell you to take out the mesh for increased performance. hope this helps. but if i were you i would not worry about it since you do not have the airbox anymore. that is where all the leaves manage to get
Call up RoadRace Engineering. www.roadraceengineering.com They keep a box of them in their shop. In fact, they store them in a honeycomb cereal box.
The 2G turbo Eclipse's MAF has the same form factor, so I believe that a honeycomb from a 2G turbo Eclipse should work.
If RRE doesn't happen to have one, I believe that you can buy the stuff in sheets. I read about it a couple years back.
Oh, and taking out the honeycomb will affect the way the MAF is tuned. If you took out the one in the metered section, it could really throw off the airflow readings. If you took out the one in the bypass tube, it can still throw off the airflow readings. This will directly affect the fuel injected into the engine. It will lean things out a little. Not too much, though, so you may still be OK.
But I prefer to have a solid airflow reading for the engine computer, and adjust fuel injection elsewhere.
"Honeycomb is big! Yeah yeah yeah!
I'ts not small! No no no!"
