Help with bad cylinder!!

I have a problem with my #2 cylinder. I am getting oil all over the spark plug.

The funny thing is, I did a compression check and get about 160 on all cylinders. Also the car runs fine, it does not seem like there is anything wrong with it.

The only reason I found this was because I changed my plugs. So what could be the problem? I was thinking maybe a cracked piston or bad rings? If it was that the car would run really bad right? It runs great. Could it be a bad intake valve not seating correctly? The car only has 38,000 on it.

Oil rings are leaking out but piston rings are fine.

Is the oil found on the tip or the porcelain side of the plug?

Would I notice any power loss or have a bad compression test, from that?

No notice in power loss until the plug finally fouls out due to oil seapage. Then you'll start to misfire.
If your oil rings are bad and your compression rings(piston rings) are good, you will still have good compression.

and they always say to pour a capful of oil into a low cylinder when testing and if the compression goes up, it's the rings, so the oil in the cylinder is probrably helping to keep the compression higher.

The way the plug gets so filled with oil I can't believe it does not misfire or anything. The car does seem to use a 1/2 quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so.

It gets covered in oil, the hole plug, unless it is gas maybe?

sniff it to see if it's oil or gas.

To me it does smell like gas. If it is gas though it should be dry right? Will the car use that much oil also?

so lets sum it up.

oil on plugs and around the plug threads

compression is 160 on all cylinders (oil in the cylinder is keeping it up)

using a about 1/2 qt 1000 miles.

You number two cylinder my be scoured or it is indeed the piston rings going bad or at least the ring on that cylinder.

Is it smoking dark soot? Are you getting dark sooty substance on back of bumper or tailpipe?

Get another compression checker and check the compression on all cylinders again.
If its more than 10psi off you are goign to start having problems soon.

What your mods........

Leak down test is what you need to do. By the way my car burns oil also but even in the owners manual it says it is normal for our cars to burn some oil. But a 1/2 quart ever 1,000miles seems much.

Tey not to rulle out a faulty valve stem seal.... I see where you are going with the oil ring going bad, but even a slight scratch on a cylcinder wall can noticeably efftect compression. If compression is holding steady, I would lean more towards the cyl head valve stem seal, OR even a worn/burnt oil passageway on the head gasket. FWIW...

I do get black soot on the back of the car, and on the garage floor at startup. I thought that was just gas. The car only puffs smoke at WOT.

My mods are cams ,exhaust, MBC, tune.

Just curious...did you notice this a short time after the cam install? AND, what kind of cams, and lift do you have?

I bought the car with all the mods already done to it. The cams are buddyclub 264/272. I have driven the car for 4,000 miles and it still runs the same as when I bought it.
