All JDM cat back's have a neck down at the cat in order to comply with certain foreign emissions rules which allow cat backs which neck down to the OEM cat
This is why all JDM produced cat back sections will have neck downs at the cat
Back in the day I seriously considered the Greddy Ti for my car but I could not see bloiwng that much money on a cat back i would have to take to a welder to have the neck down section removed and have the material fabricated out of ti
to me its all a giant waste of money considering that the buschur exhuast is nearly as light and makes identical power at 1/3 the cost
Keep in mind for trivial buffs
I went 9 seconds on the full Buschur 3" exhuast - same one that everyone can buy with the old style muffler on my evo
David Buschur went RH 9 status on his daily driver RS with radials and the full 3" BR exhuast
My Evo went RH 9 status this past season - 9.8 @ 149 on radials with no nos - and the BR 3.5 " exhuast

I just watched that video...
One thing I noticed about the exhaust that was previously on the car. It necks down way more than I thought, which, if we are playing the 3 inch to 3 inch game, you cant put that exhaust in the running. It really looks like a peice of you know what to me. So, Im going to go back on everything previously said by myself in this thread, and state that, this exhaust test thread is entirely plausable. That that POS catback, a HFC, and unknown, but quite bendy, downpipe, could certainly be outpaced by the arrow straight 3 inch BR exhaust. Now I would really love a comparison to a REAL 3 inch exhaust. not that sad excuse for a catback exhaust. I really think that the ebay, the proper ebay, the one that people have and like, would be an extremly close comparison. HFC's need to stay out though.

*edit - rusty peice looks like the end of a stock cat to me.

My point in doing the test was to show the customer that his existing 3" exhuast he was using was not as effective as a well designed 3" exhuast
Sadly a significant proportion of my customers show up to be tuned with similar ill designed units
I think there may be a market niche in the future for a quiet cop friendly exhuast which makes good power

vigo,
If you will notice we were NOT invited to that test in Turbo magazine. Take good note of that while you are comparing.
We did an exhaust shootout in TPR magazine and went up against the Greddy Ti. In that test against our old system (note, less HP than our current muffler) the Greddy Ti made .8 more hp than we did BUT we made 1.3 more Ft lbs of torque than they did. I'd call the power outcome of the test a draw. Our catback weighed in at about 5 pounds more than their, ours costs $450. Greddy does not make a downpipe/offroad pipe/cat. So if you are buying ANYONE else's downpipe/offroad pipe than ours to mate to that lighweight Greddy when you get it all put together the total weight of the system will weigh MORE than ours. In other words we have THE LIGHTEST TURBO BACK EXHAUST AVAILABLE FOR AN EVO. Until someone does a complete turbo back Ti exhaust we will continue to have the lightest. When that happens I will have to change my claim to "The lightest stainless steel turbo back available for an EVO."
Rock on Al.

Don't even bother with a full titanium turbo-back, it's a bad idea anyway. It will be too expensive, and too brittle under high heat for turbo applications. The test pipe and downpipe components should never be made out titanium. They are too hot.
Leave the titanium stuff to the JDM people.

I wont comment on the testing, as I think this is definatly more of an A-B test then the previous "Buschur vs. crap" testing.
However that being said, after watching the video I was shocked to see the way you (Al) talk to your customers. If you speak to all your customers like that, I'm suprised to know they still continue to do business with you. Making someone feel stupid is not a good sales technique. Explain the differences, and benefits of the product you are trying to sell. Never, ever, ever make the customer feel like they are dumb for buying something else. It's your job to educate them without putting them, or their previous decisions down.
Personally, if I were that guy, I would have asked for my keys and left.
Just something to keep in mind.

the customer was here for nearly 9 hours and i had plenty of time to explain all the suttle nuiances of exhuast design with him
I think he was very happy having had the better part of 4 hours of dyno time, the reflash and free testing for $350 as well as a tremedous bargain on a slightly used buschur v band unit he was able to get me to sell him
Every one has his / her own style of customer interaction. I have mine which is staight forward and to the point, direct and 100% honest. I dont have a problem joking about with a customer who claims to have a full buschur staged package - and who in fact has a greddy exhaust - i thought it was sad and amusing at the same time, kind of a parady of the tuning business in a nut shell.
to each his own.
Good lord. Can you be anymore dramatic when backed into a corner?

From the 2min clip, that was the impression I got.
I loved the test! I agree with the results, now I have an even more reason to go home and install my Buschur TBE that's waiting in my room! Good job AL on the testing, keep doing what you do best! David's exhaust still holds its name strong! After all the *****ing and complaining I haven't heard or seen anyone complain about Buschur TBE not making it's advertised power... So with that said, everyone should just relax a bit! People can spend their money on what ever they like! END OF STORY! But I like to spend my $ on things to make my EVO faster if what I bought is a "performance part"!
^^Exactly its just the details that are getting lost somewhere. Buschur Obviously makes very quality parts, There is a reason they have been around for so long making very fast reliable vehicles, But all of this poor advertisment doesn't help. Buschur makes very quality parts. But when someone comes on here and time after time makes claims like these when the details are this sketchy ruins their image for me. Trust me I know all about representing a company and believing that your product is the best. But because there is this gray area im going to continue to take my business elsewhere, And the sad part is its not buschurs or their products fault.
kartarailed,
THANK YOU for taking the time to go back and take a look. I really appreciate you doing that.
To the rest of you. Now that I must have made a decent point of this that some of you are going back and seeing what Al actually said let me re-iterate the point.
Al is saying all 3" exhausts are NOT created equal. A 3" pipe is a 3" pipe is what a lot of you keep saying. To a point this is true but the problem is when was the last time you saw this: "Now introducing "insert companies name here" new 3" exhaust, well it is only 3" most of the way, the beginning part has a big reducer in it and a restrictive resonator, also has stainless steel tubing, actually has mild steel flanges that are going to rust, a restrictive quiet muffler and polished tip"
The answer is, you never see that. What the customer sees is this: "Now introducing "insert companies name here" the highest flowing 3" catback for the EVO 8 and 9. Our exhaust is constructed of stainless steel with our new under 95 db muffler and huge 4" polished tip"
Hopefully you can see what Al and I are both saying. A 3" exhaust is not a 3" exhaust. The reason is, not all 3" exhausts were designed to be the lightest and make the most power. Ours happens to have been.

I'll keep my word too Dave, it was clearly stated what the car had previously and thats what I asked for.
Buschur vband > Greddy SP2
I know some are saying its apples to oranges becuase its cat vs test pipe. Look, I run a 3" HFC. We all know, its about a 5-10hp difference between that and a test pipe. Seriously. NOT 29hp. So the other 19hp Al picked up off the Buschur has to be because of the neckdown/s turn in pipe/restrictive muffler.
My apologies to Al and Dave. Good job.
Now that Ive been around on these forums a while, Im really starting to understand why Dave doesnt even want to post his dyno test results anymore. Hell, even I have argued with him tooth and nail in previous threads. (Works o2 houseing debaucle). By the way Dave, I bought an ebay o2 from all that
You guys really need to stop bashing. Ask questions, question the test, fine. But be nice about it. Take example from Bosshog, KartaRailed and a few others in this thread. There was no need for bashing.
