I'm a believer when there is more then one source seeing similar results.

Some further research on Honda-tech and I found a car with the same intercooler as we are using. The car made ~580 WHP on 18 PSI then would not go over 600 WHP even with 28 PSI. Changed to a Garrett core and the car gained almost 100HP at 28 PSI.

I'm not a "David Disbeliever," I just like to see multiple results showing the same thing. We didn't see quite the temperature gains as you did on the dyno but it was there and will show up in other testing. The power differences between the cores will probably be relatively low on the dyno but I'm hoping it will make a huge difference on the track because we are down almost 100 WHP from the dyno results considering the trap speeds and the mathematical density difference of the hot air charge with the eBay core could easily get us that extra HP.

In the end,
"+1 for the cheap Ebay ICs being terrible performers on a high boost car"

I had also bought a new LARGE FMIC to test awhile back. This is the really big one with the 3" inlet/outlet.

First off it does not fit with our FMIC plumbing and it has not mounts. It's just a big Ebay intercooler.

We had some 3" to 2.5" couplings and attempted our best to put it on the car. It was fine at 25 psi but would not stay on at 40 psi. Looks like it is a turd anyway so here is what I could get for data:

Air tempurature after the intercooler at start of test, 64.40 degrees
Air tempurature at end of test (test ended at ONLY 6200 rpm as the pipe blew off 2 times) 82.40 degrees.

Peak boost pressure was 41.58 psi.

The test of our Race FMIC were run from 3,000 rpm to 8,000 rpm. Temps were taken at the start and end of the pulls for all these tests.

So even this very large FMIC increased air temps 18 degrees and it wasn't even close to being a full pull. For comparison the smaller ebay intercooler from start to 6200 rpm had increased to 86 degrees.

This concludes our Ebay intercooler testing. I have both of these for sale or you can buy a real intercooler and call us to order the Race FMIC.
How much for you ebay intercooler shipped to 65804?

Figured I would speak up since I had similar results. Although I'm not making anywhere near the power you or Dave are.

I ran an ebay fmic much like the treadstone you mentioned. It had a 24x12x4 bar and plate core. During 3rd gear tuning pulls, I saw next to no knock. Car felt real strong. I make a visit to the track and by 4th gear on every run I start encountering a significant amount of knock and have to let off before the finish. By the 5th run I've pulled so much timing out I trap a best of 120mph on a 50trim at 27psi. Fuel was 93oct with 100% meth being injected.

At this point I'm pretty much convinced the fault lies with the fmic and later found this to be true. I decide to bite the bullet and pick up a BR Race fmic, re-tune the car and head back to the track. Right away I'm trapping consistent 123mph passes. On the 4th and final pass I increase timing advance a couple degrees and trap 125mph. The great thing about this is I'm still not encountering any knock. However it was close to closing time so I was unable to continue my testing. When I have time I'll go back and see what last bit of power I can wring out of her. So in the end I found the purchase of the Race fmic to be well worth it for my setup.

Crackerjack, I still have both FMIC's at our shop. If you are interested I will sell the AMS copy for $150 shipped and the big race style core for $250 shipped.

Hman EVO, thanks for the post. Really appreciate that and glad to see our Race FMIC helped you get the car faster and closer to whatever goals you have for it. It's a great intercooler.

When I get the money I'm going to do some back to back testing of my own with a Buschur IC.

Please tell me if I'm out of line here... But since we are talking about knock offs and this has been resurrected. I'd like to ask David where he got the idea for the Buschur
boost controller part number ASM-INT-700... Oh my bad that is Perrins part number.

angrydego,

First off take some time to read the thread. When you do you will see I did not do this complaining about someone knocking something off. I did an intercooler test. A test of multiple products to show the performance of one compared to another. So you do get the dee-dee-dee award as Jasil pointed out.

As for the boost controller, Perrin copied everyone else's ball and spring design that came before them.................your point is stupid. The entire boost controller ordeal is over and done with, if you want to bring that up go over in that OLD thread and revive it too.

I can see from your mod list in your signature why you are named "angrydego" I'd be mad too if I spent money and had a slow EVO! hahaha

Oh! I see.... You know what Dave I am a bit angry. I guess my anger stems from the
Buschur Bullet cat back I had put on about 5 months ago that gave me nothing but problems. The clamps never tightened to completely seal and when I took it off all I had to do was unbolt the muffler hanger and it slipped right off at the cat slip joint.
Thanks for helping me make a slow car.
