Im not talking about a ams knock off. Im talking about a certain ebay "brand" (Cxracing) intercooler as i know people with there intercoolers that push 400-450hp with great result as low as 5 deg increase in air temp from begining of a run to end.

brilliant test. I am sure you are getting high fives over on that forum too.

the 4.5 race core has 1296 square inches of intercooler heat sink.
the AMS copy and the real one have 840 square inches of heat sink.

what did you think would happen when you remove more heat before it gets to engine?

You would have gotten the same results testing the 4.5 race against the AMS street core.

I am being crass because there are too many idiots making stupid useless comments about e-bay intercoolers. they should not all be grouped together. The CX racing 4 x 24 x 12 (1152sq/in) is a damn good intercooler for the 115 shipped I have paid for them. No shop is going to announce they work well as opposed to buying their 700+ dollar version they want you to.

I've put down a little over 40,000 hard WOT miles on the ebay intercooler. Some of this was also on backroads where high boost was sustained for 10-15 minutes at a time. I did notice that knock would start to become more frequent (after the first 30 seconds of WOT) as I continued to drive the car hard. Recently my car has been in storage in my garage while I've been redoing some suspension and steering adjustments. I took a look at the inside of this ebay core and I was shocked at what I saw! Fins were bent, and some were even missing (presumably sucked into the engine). If I had to do it all over again I think I would have purchased a high end FMIC with a garrett core. These ebay cores are 100% bull****, and they heatsoak like crazy. I had high hopes for it, but in the end you get what you paid for. The ebay turbo back exhausts however are AWESOME (honestly how can you mess up 3 inch mandrel bent piping) minus some of the small dents they come with lol.

Bottom line:
Ebay intercooler could be used for a car if the only goal was drag racing (or dyno queen)
If sustained boost is desired, you better invest in a real intercooler!

How soon you forget calling Nesei engineers idiots when they tested your street core against their larger core. I am sure you remember that.

That is not the race core. As David has said numerous times, he always suggests to his costumers that they use the Race core. He even said earlier in the thread that he has contemplated discontinuing the Street core.

Although "discontinuing" were not his exact words. I apologize.

My head hurts after reading the entire thread.

I do remember, there was just no need to be a dick to Doug about what he said or make some nasty comment about what may or may not have been said/done on HBF's.

We have two intercoolers we offer now for the EVO, the Race and the Street, I have no intentions of offering any others or stopping production of either of those.

Yeah, I should have added that part.

When the testing was done in 2007 you thought about stopping the production of the Street core. Not to confuse anybody.

Wasn't there arguments about David not testing cores with the same dimensions? Yes there was. The Nisei "larger core" surface area is slightly larger than the BR Street core.

The BR haters are trying their hardest to find flaws in Buschur Racing's products and their testing practices.

I didn't build a street core in 2007. Then we had the Standard and Deluxe, both of which we no longer make.

I did just build our new Street core set up like our old Deluxe was..........also how the Bad Bish is, with the rear entry. Smart EVO owner wants it!

I proudly stand corrected.

Not many people on here (this thread clearly points them out) don't know how to do that.

The really big ebay cores work on cars that don't put a big thermal load on them.

They offer low pressure drops, due to the lack of internal turbulator fins.

They are big enough to soak up some heat from the charge in short bursts.

But when you start pushing the boost up and charge temps rise going into the cooler, it WILL NOT keep up. They may as well be an extruded tube and fine intercooler. Low pressure drop, low thermal efficiency.
