Dave,

thanks for doing the test and posting the data. i always believed that your IC would perform better then the XSP IC, and this post just prove it.

I got the XSP IC with lower ICP, couplings and t-bolt clamps for $180 shipped. my target hp is 350 whp, which is not high enough to warrant a $600 IC. most would even say that i don't even need an aftermarket IC but i got it mainly because it came with lower ICP. the XSP IC will stay on my car until someone shows me data supporting that it perform worse than stock. in that case, i will put the stock one back on.

there's no doubt that Your IC is one of the best on the market but if Cosworh came out with an IC that make 5 more whp and 10 deg less and cost $3,000. does that mean that your IC is junk, no. and would the $2400 worth the extra 5 whp, hell no.

Ok, try not to take this as a bash... but you really need to read a bit more carefully.

The big issue here isn't the hp difference. The issue is the intake charge temp! Because he had all the temp and knock corrections turned off on his AEM, his hp wasn't effected all that much. What did happen is his knock count spiked up, and under normal conditions his car would have pulled timing and started dumping fuel to try and fix it. This would have caused a severe drop in HP.

We're also not talking about a 10 degree difference. The difference was huge, and this has a huge impact on how well the car runs, and how safely.

Seriously folks, READ AND COMPREHEND. This is NOT ABOUT THE HP NUMBERS, this is about the TEMPERATURE. And as all the world knows, cooler is better.

I would politely ask for a 2nd shop to do some tests as well. Just like Buschur's test. Not saying that his tests are flawed or anything. I just would like an unbiased shop to do so.
Shoot, if I had read this thread before I removed the Buschur Deluxe FMIC from my car, I could have made arrangements to go to Topspeed in ATL and test both the Deluxe verse the AMS's of the similar size. (which is what I replaced the Deluxe with)
Coming from someone who goes through the troble of removing Buschur parts from vehicles I buy, I can say for certain that I think the way he performed the intercooler test is pertty good. Yes if it were me doing the testing, I might have tested a couple more intercoolers, BUT it wasnt me nor my car nor my dyno, so oh well, I guess we all need to buy a dyno to do it our way huh?
I prob will get some negative comments for agreeing with Buschur but what ever. A person's hard work in testing is still hard work that WE (as a community) did not do and he did not have to do. He did it for us.

What you sir need to realize is that he's running the Ebay FMIC on a stock turbo 350whp car, not a 9 second built race car that pushes 40psi. Even the AMS version that this IC copies wasn't meant for that.

This is what I have a problem with on these forums, total regurgitation of what someone else has said.

I forgot to say that in my opinion the Ebay FMIC should have been tested with a car closer to the ho number that the people who typically use them are at. Then test the others (Buschur & AMS) with the same car. I don't know of a whole lot of 600+ daily driven EVO's arround my region.

Let me get this correct - you buy vehicles with Buschur parts and remove them ?

Why ?

How are the re-sale values on those Buschur parts ?

Listen dude, go make your own fu**ing post where ever you like and talk all the sh*t you want, but serious people who are interested in the topic don't want to look at 150+ post over you arguing with the man! I mean sh*t I spent a huge amount of money on my car, and I'm happy that nothing breaks or fails and better yet, I don't have any issues adding or fitting other parts on it. Look, the man just wanted to show more then HP/TQ gains from an intercooler. A lot of people here started saying "oh well if the turbo was smaller or if this and that.." Common, is all that sh*t necessary? He recommends it on any turbo, be it stock or a damn GT42R. I bought his products for a reason! Go to the street races and see what the fastest evo's use... The EBAY one works great one night maybe two some get lucky and get a few months out of it, but those are the pissed off guys that are on the side of the road because something broke... In my opinion I think what Dave Buschur did was excellent and if I have a question, I'll ask. If I wanna bash, I'll make another post, but I wouldn't be a dick and ruin his forum and have co-signers come in and mess the whole thing up for others!!!! Dave continue your good work while others started they day the bought their EVO as being "A EXPERT ON EVO's".

For all that hate on what David does, just buy a Honda Civic or something, and save a lot of money buying parts for it. Or just stay away from his forums, but serious people actually want to see and read what the man has to say! Thank You!
LilRico, what you just said is right on! I'm personally tired of trying to get something out of EvolutionM, regardless of who said it, and having the original poster put down for what they said. I've also personally noticed that it's always the same 3 or 4 Negative posters who ALWAYS argue with DB and his results. If a person were to believe that those 3 or 4 were always right, then Buschur Racing must not have any parts that are superior to Ebay, what-you-say, or any-***king-way. I here and now call you the negative posters out to a shoot out. My dumbass, non-efficient, no horsepower, overheated Evo IX with your highly efficient and Cheap-*** Ebay modeled cars. Put up or shut up. I'm tired of reading pages and pages of bullschit arguments and wasting my time, when my original intent was to extract good information from a very good and decent friend. Rock on DB. (I'm not too sure however, seeing that you're car has over 640whp AND higher torque than mine, that I want to TRUST you to re-tune it before the May 7th track day,....hmmmmmm)

I'll bump this as it seems like huge intercoolers are the way forward on evom
  • Dosn't huge intercoolers kill turbo response when hitting the trottle and changing gears - I am sure that the race units produce good numbers on the dyno, but what about drivability?
  • Aren't "regular" units offered by reputable companies (all around 30-50% larger than stock already) should be large/good enough for the stock turbo.
  • Why do most of the intercoolers just large enough to not fit with the undertray - is it impossible to improve on the stock intercooler design without having to cut the undertray?

one more question for Dave, was the test done with the front bumper on or off? i don't know if the result would sway one way or the other, but it's another real world variable that needs to be consider.

Lets see the person I was replying to posted...

"there's no doubt that Your IC is one of the best on the market but if Cosworh came out with an IC that make 5 more whp and 10 deg less and cost $3,000. does that mean that your IC is junk, no. and would the $2400 worth the extra 5 whp, hell no."

We aren't talking about 10 degree's, and if the temp and knock corrections were turned on we certainly wouldn't be talking about 5-10 hp difference. We're also not talking about $2400 difference in cost.

There seem to be a lot of people complaining in here because they thought that their $150 fmic performed at least close to the Buschur one, now their feelings are hurt because it doesn't.

Get over it.

Dave... can I ask why you chose to report intake temps before and after the pull, but not during?

Also may I ask, how much time elapsed between the pull ending, and you checking the "after pull" temp?

If everyone would stop whining and just keep comments and questions to a technical nature I think this thread would be benefited greatly. Maybe the mods can jump in and trim all the junk out?

FYI I have nothing against Buschur at all... I'm just trying to figure out what intercooler to get. I have a normal AMS currently.

the numbers i used are just arbitrary. my point is that we all sacrifice a little performance and functionally to save money and invest it else where. is the computer you're using the fastest in the world? no, you couldn't afford it but you got a computer that meet your needs and paid a lot less. is the chair you're sitting in the most comfortable chair in the world. no, but you got a chair that suit your need for a lot less money. also, people who use Ebay parts are not out there trying to set world record or anything. the people who are trying to set world record have the money or the means to buy the best money can buy.

if my XSP IC makes 10 whp more than the stock by itself (with out the LICP), than i think it's money well spent. i could spend the other $450 i saved on cams. to each is there own.

There was some talk of the new point system as a method to weed out and remove the argumentative individuals who use profane and abusive comments and are always attacking others

I have not seen any points being issued - or any effect of the new system - I hope at some point it results in some of these individuals getting booted

PEOPLE on this forum really need to learn to communicate their opinions in a more civil and less vulgar and profane manner.

to the guys who are making these rude remarks - there is no reason to insult someone and call names to make your point - in fact when you do so it lessons the value of what you are saying

on a second front - I agree about your car's speed

I have never been in any car as fast as yours on the street

It has everything you need and NOT any crap you don't need to go fast

your car is a perfect representation of the Buschur concept of car building - go fast with the minimum of what is needed usuing tested and pruven parts all designed and devloped with a eye to performance and form

Al
