Evo is new to me.Still getting used to all the sounds.Anyhow she used with 38k and remaining factory drivetrain warranty until 60k.I hear a whine in low rpm in first gear sounds almost like im supercharged for a sec. Then it tones down and goes away before the end of first and second gear entry. Is this anything to worry about?Cant play your video to see if yours is similar.

If it's only first, I wouldn't expect that to be the tcase. My tcase doesn't get really noticeable until 50 mph or so. Some days its louder on decel, other days it's louder on accel. Sometimes it's generally pretty quiet until I make a WOT pull, then it screams at me for the rest of the trip. It's louder than my exhaust and my stereo, hard to confuse it with anything else. Heavier fluid quieted it down significantly. My first gear has always had a loud whine, since shortly after I bought it. That hasn't changed at all with the tcase ****ting itself on me.

I'm floored with the amount of bad information being spread on the forums.

ya, mine was making the death whine when the first tc went out. i kinda let it go until one day she finally broke and locked up the wheels. i didnt let this one get that far. as soon as the whine happened i got another one on order. its really irreversible too as far as i can tell. i guess you can buy the ring and pinion, but as far as bearings go, good luck. i contacted at least 10 different companies that make bearings and no one had the right sizes. the tc is just the achilles heel of the evo i guess. i still love my car tho!

Oh boy, mine makes that noise too!

So how bad does it have to be before Mistu will replace it under warranty, or will they do it at all? I only have 7k miles and have never launched, so it seems a little silly that it would be going bad already, but oh well.

I recorded my noise on my cell so I could compare it, and it sounds exactly the same, but it starts at 80mph in 5th/6th and about 30 in 3rd/4th. It also does not seem to be as loud, yet. I could not even hear it before but I switched back to stock exhaust and now it is pretty noticeable.

My car makes the noise too. Mitsu dealer denied claim because they said my aftermarket springs did it. BS. But my question is what exactly breaks? is it a bad bearing or the gears wearing?

It could be those or the differential.
