On the bottom of the EVO transmission there is a square 4" black plate bolted into the tranny.

On mine a bit of oil is seeping through it seems. Doesn't look like a lot just enough to be around the edges of the black plate.

I called the dealer and they said this is normal as this is the tranny blow off for excess pressure, etc!




Is this normal?

 

the leak isn't normal. I won't comment on the "blow off plate", lol.

i ended up calling Shep Transmission...the guy i spoke with started cracking up as well on the "blow off plate" comment.

The gist of it is that the seal is not crazy tight so as long as it's not leaking on the ground it's all good. A little seepage is fine.
Next time i have the transmission fluid changed i should have them tighten it correctly.

I was just being overly worried and paranoid as usual!

FYI for anyone else wondering this stuff.

 

just drain the fluid, remove the plate, remove the old silicone rtv, put a 1/4 in bead of it arround the plate, and replace. done in 30 mins or so
