HKS 280/camgear impressions

Well got the ride back today. The HKS 280's are loopy and my cam gears are set at exhaust 0 and intake -3. Shop said it'd be ok so i went w/that setup. Car almost died while looking for parking. haha. So guys, think i should retard the exhaust as well? Next stage is my 20g green getting installed, so anyone w/ that turbo please give me some input on your camgear settings. Really appreciate it. BTW car sound even greater then before, just sick.

0/-3 probably would give a crappy idle, due to increased valve overlap. If you want smoother idle, then you may wanna try something like a -4/-2 setting.

Yeah i'm going to try -3/-3 first. Ted b suggested running that for dragging and better idle. I'll see how it goes.

Get it tuned. 280's lean the car out at idle.

Was he suggesting, +2intake/+1exhaust, and alternately, +3intake/+1exhaust? I don´t know for sure since I never tried those particular settings, however, my guess is that the idle might get pretty funky. I have run +2/0, which should idle about the same as +2/+1, and that has a real lopey, funky idle, and it´d die on me about once a week.

Additionally, advaning the cam timing tends to make the car more knock prone lower down in the rev range.

The only way the idle will improve with '2-3 degree' and '1 degree' is if the intake is retarded 2-3 degrees and the exhaust is advanced 1 degree.

FYI

Hey Ted b, what timing would you suggest for a 20g evogreen upgrade? I'm thinking on doing the -3/-3 or -4/-2. Let me know thanks.

It depends on what you want. For best midrange punch, +2/0. For better top end hp at the expense of midrange, something like -4/-1.

After some testing, I ended up running mine at +2/0.
