transmission noise

I just had my trans rebuilt (input bearing) and ACT clutch & flywheel installed in my car. 03 GSR. At idle with the clutch released, I get a howl like noise, depress the pedal and it goes away. I have already had the trans removed again and reinspected for possible install error and found nothing out of the ordinary. When the clutch was installed I did replace the throw out bearing with the one that came from ACT.
Any other Ideas? My mind is fried from racking it so much with this car, the problem is probable right in my face but I can not figure it out. Any help would be great.

My experience with other cars is that its the throw out bearing... I have the same issue with an old datsun...once it gets driven a awhile it goes away...I would double check the clutch adj to be sure it was disengaging fully and the throwout bearing isn't riding on the fingers....Just a thought...

I am thinking the same thing, but this would be the first pull style clutch that I have ran into with this issue

i had the same problem with my dsm..but the t.o bearing would tick....then when i pushed in the clutch itd go away...i had the trans sent to shep...and when it came back..it still made the noise........

check all of your bolts going from the trans into the block..you might be missing 1...and check your trans mounts.......i was missing the ear off of my block and it was missing 1 bolt to put into the trans...so the tranny would move.......a good way to figure this out is have someone outside looking at the tranny while someone else is pushing in the clutch...if the trans moves at all! then u got a problem...

It sounds more like a bearing noise, not a tick or a bang. I have another OEM throw out bearing that I think I am going to get put in this week. Hopefully it fixes it.

i have the same problem, got a new tranny from shep a week ago. i have a ticking noise at idle , then goes away when the clutch is engaging . i have replaced the throw out bearing and have had the tranny pulled out twice just in case of any mechanical error. i also had the noise there before the new tranny. im guessing is the act clutch... dont know yet.

I am thinking along the same lines. If it isnt the clutch, I think I have a problem with something on the 1st and reverse shaft (makes the most noise when in those gears)
