Help!! I stripped my axles!!

Hey guys, I have an issue. I just got done installing my clutch and as I'm adding on the finishing touches, the axles were the last to put in, I put the spindle nut on not knowing that it was a little messed up. I'm not sure how it happened. I used an air gun to put them in and all the sudden they stopped half way. So now I'm stuck with bad threads on my axle. My question is, is there a replacement end they make for my axles? If so, where do I find it? My other option is to buy a new axle but you all know how expensive those things are. I'm thinking of a tap and die kit but am not sure where to find a die that HUGE!! Does anyone have any info?? Thanks guys for the input!

New axels is going to be your best bet.

Always thread the bold/nut first then use impact or other power tool.

I would try a thread file. It all depends how bad the threads are rolled over. Its gonna be really hard to find a die that size.

I hope you will take a bit more time and not to use the air tool when putting things back together. Good luck.

Cut a undamaged nut in half with a carbide blade. Clamp the two halves over the axle all the way to the hub, making sure that the threads of the nut are in the threads of the axle. Turn the assembly backwards towards the area that you misthreaded. You MAY be able to rethread the damaged threads by using the undamaged threads as a guide. It only costs a sacrificial nut. You'd give a nut to have the axle useable, wouldn't you? Of course, you'd only use the axle if it had LOTS of undamaged threads closer to the hub and you could thread a good nut onto undamaged threads afterwards, right? OK.

Don't sweat it. There's always a fix for everything.

Best way is to run a dye to clean up the threads.
Should be less than $10.
Just figure out what size thread it is.

You can't run a die to clean up the threads, because you cross threaded them from the outside in. You have to start from the inside to the outside, in order to use the good threads to correct the damaged ones, which is why I described how to do that above.

yah what mike said ^^^

The nut is usally the softer metal..so your axle threads might still be good

Since it stopped half way, it means that he still had some threads on the end and just got stripped in the middle.
Been chasing threads this way and it always works.
Also, it won't hurt to try it instead of buying new axles.
Just have to get a new axle nut.
