Engine Running Hot?!
Engine Running Hot?!
My car was hit while sitting in a parking lot a few months ago, Front end, and the dealer fixed the damage. But I had to have them fix things three times to get it right, and its making me nervous now that I see my engine temp gauge running into the 90 degree mark under normal driving conditions! Not into boost, 70 degree day here in Chicago, within ten to fifteen minutes is at the 90 degree mark on the stock oil temp gauge?
Even in colder weather I have found that the car runs hotter than it did before the incident.
Is this normal?
What temps does your car run under normal operating scenarios?
Items replaced-- FMIC and RADIATOR FAN
Thanks in advance guys and girls.

My oil temps standardly run at 90 even on cool days when not pushing it. Granted this is on my Defis. Today is in the low 80s and I went for a mountain drive. During the drive I saw 115 to 120 peaks while pulling up several canyons.
If all they replaced was the fan in relationship to the cooling system then the only time you should really see increased temperatures is when you are at idle -- and then only if the fan is not turning on.
How badly crunched was the front end? Any damage to the stock oil cooler? (It is located in the front right corner)
Cooling systems are fairly hard to screw up. It is unlikely that there is a problem unless you have a failing thermostat and this would be unrelated to your accident.

Are you asking if it is normal for a car to run hotter after an accident because that makes no sense. If it has been repaired properly the temperature gauge should come up the same spot on the gauge as before and stay there as it did before. Anything else indicates something is wrong.
Since the only part of the cooling system that has been touched is the fan, does the fan operate? Can you see if any condensor fins got flattened when the fan got smacked? If all that is okay then change the thermostat.

Only the fan and the fmic were replaced. The damage was not bad at all, but because the was a minor dent in the fmic and a chip in the radiator fan, they replaced them.
I am asking what the normal running temps for your cars are.
I guess based upon this one answer that it is normal, but I never noticed the oil temp. going over 80 for the year before the incident. And that was during normal driving conditions.
The fan operates fine, as far as I can tell. I hear it come on when at stop lights, and at other times.

on my car on crusing speeds ive seen the gauge at the 70-80 mark only when iam driving in a lot of trafic i see it at the 90 mark and the ambient temps are at 90f up here in my country hope this helps
90 degreed C is nothing for oil temp
210 F is where most power is made. under normal driving conditions i get anywhere from 190-210 and 250f when road racing. what your geting close to 275-300f at the track is when you got to start worrying

90 degrees celcius is not high. I wouldn't worry about it. Does it reach 90 degrees celcius quick, cause that's not fine. You really don't want the oil to warm up fast to 90 degrees celcius and if it does under NORMAL driving you might have an issue. My car takes about 5-10 min. for the coolant to reach normal temp, but my oil takes much longer to even reach 70 degrees celcius. If I keep my rpms around 3K and cruise at 30mph-60mph my oil can stay below 70 degrees celcius depending on outside temp (50-70*F). When it's gets warm around here I have seen my gauge hit 90 degrees celcius under hard driving and stop and go traffic/traffic lights. Do you let your car idle for extended periods, cause that could also cause a quick rise in oil temperature. Hope this helps.
