and yes most smog techs do just look at the cat... we dont make sure it's oem or anything so long as it's there and the tailpipe is clean...
Yup. I use to be a smog tech also. We don't care if it's a HF or not, just as long as you have one. Now if your car fails , then your sh*t out of luck.

LoL, I think it if didnt work, it would defeat the purpose of a HFC.

Resurrecting an old thread to get more confirmations that people have passed smog with AMS HFC in Cali. Also have UICP and LICP. How likely will my Evo X pass as is?

Why would you ask this question when smog testing in CA has moved over to the ECU & oxygen sensor readiness (no sniffer test used)

Visually, the HFC would fail

Sorry I am no expert in smog testing. Car was tuned by RRE and has no CEL. Are you saying then if the tech doesn't bother to look under the car or knows what the stock cat is supposed to look like, it will likely pass? Thanks!

Sorry, I took it for granted that we all knew

Yes, if the shop is not hard on the visual you should be OK. You should have your ECU scanned before you go in to ensure all the o2 sensors are logged in. Being that youre tuned, all your sensors may not be "ON"

Where/how can I get my ECU scanned? Do I need to go back to RRE?

Any OBDII scanner can read the o2 readiness. Or call Sam at RRE & ask him to do it. After all the $$$ you spent there, they should provide that service at no cost

You certainly dont want to go to the smog station & have them do that & then fail you
