No compression test today. I bought the guage and decided to change my oil and put gold film on my valve cover since the heat is bubbling the valve cover paint by the manifold. I will do the compression test tomorrow. As you all know the gold tape was the most important thing I could have done today...... lol Not really.... :P

I am surprised it is bubbling your valve color. I am running my 35r kit for 8k miles now. 3k with Meth and the car seeing 26+PSI daily and no bubbling or me. Also I had the stock clutch and stock FMIC on the 35r for 2k miles while running 21psi and it held pretty well. Once I knew I wanted to go with meth and turn the wick up a little i knew to take the stock clutch out. I am hoping all it is was your clutch not holding everything you were throwing at it.

Something interesting..... I changed my oil today to royal purple 10w30 along with a new Mitsu filter. I just now took the DV out and put the red spring in it with 2 shims. The car is now peaking at 25psi where as it was at 23-24ish peak. So I did gain some boost from it. But..... I have now noticed that I have a very noticable ticking sound comming from what appears to be one of the center 2 cylinders. My idel now also hunts while rolling it goes from 2K to 1K 2 k to 1K but when the car is stationary it is now over 1,000rpm and my boost guage also used to read a stedy -70 and now at idle it is reading a -75.... So with the DV spring change something has changed.... But I do not like the sound of that ticking..... I have read that people that installed royal purple have had that sound but I have used it before and never noticed that sound..... actually I have now and then but it seems consistant now.

It's not thought.... It has done that before then W4S changed the idle in ECU Flash and it was good again. Seems like when the idle gets too high it does this. But I did pick some boost up from the spring change. I took note of my peak and hold which is VERY consistant on my EBC and it went up about 1-2psi.

Your evo15 valve leaked at idle. Now it does not. The Royal Purple is the cause of the lifter tick. I would not use that stuff personally. This info is readily available in the forums.

Can you mod my map to adjust the idle? If not I assume it is the desired idle RPM Drive map?

Thanks for the info! I have never heard bad things about RP. I did some searching and read that it may actually wear things down faster due to the fact it has a certain chemical in it. But that test was conducted by a competing oil manufacturer.... Then you read on and it says it is a group4 and Mobil 1 is a group 3 meaning it is not fully synthetic... so who really know what to believe?

and everyone is still using Mobil personally I don't think it makes a huge difference. I use Mobil I'm more concerned about the filter and change the oil every 2k is probably too frequently anyway.

Start with a Boost leak Test, Then Compression Test,

If your unsing the stock return like you have to make sure that both Surfaces are Dead Even , use some Hi temp Silicone sealent that you can get at Any good parts store. Just dont apply too much cause you might cloge the line. i would recommend using a real return line, but thats just me

Good luck PM me if you want some help man

Would it be wise to not drive the car while it is ticking and change the oil tomorrow to Mobil 1? If it is still ticking then what..? Does the filter have anything to do with it? It is the MZ....116 filter.

Hitman,
Scott is very correct on the comment he made about the current oil you are using. I had the same problem.

I tried all the brands, Royal Purple, Amsoil, Red Line, Mobil 1.
Amsoil is the one I like the best. After a couple of oil changes using it, you will never look back.

Good luck.
