Trunk clanking sound
When I open and close my trunk I hear this one loud clanking sound. I hear it once when the trunk is open, and once when it is closed.
I can see that the sound is coming from the two metal bars that connect to the trunk hinge and go under the rear deck on both sides. The sound also may be due to the small plastic white piece that ties these two bars together.
Kind of hard to explain. Any ideas?

I have the same noise problem. Every time I hit a pothole or any bump for that fact the back of the back phumps. I think its that I have broken perches from having the RRM Rear Swaybar. But I ordered some so hopefully thats what it is.
The noise I get isn't from the suspension at all. It is only when I open and close my trunk. It is coming from the 2 thin horizontal bars that go directly under the rear deck.
I'll try to get a pic. It is all trunk hinge/spring related.

Yes, those are the bars. The long thin horizontal bars that hold the trunk up. Those same bars on my other cars dont make the loud clanking sound....
Does your car have a little white plastic piece attached to both bars connecting both bars? I am thinking this plastic piece is out of adjustment on mine......

Those are tortion bars.. They tend to groan and clunk when you open and close the trunk.. Most cars have those instead of springs for the hinge.. The clunk is typically because the bars crisscross eachother and bump together.. you can get a rubber donut (to use as an insulator) and place one on each bar where they are close together, this way when they bump, it should no longer clunk.. I had an ancient car that used to do the same thing.
There is a small white plastic thingy clipped onto the two bars. I slid the white thingy to the middle of the two bars and the noise is gone. So basically, all that my car needed was to slighty (1 inch or less) reposition the small white clip.
I have a nice Idea for you..
Rap one of the Horizontal bars with some cotton.. I think that should do the trick..
I have the same problem but I don't mind it as I am having bigger problems with the car than simple trunk noise lol
