Ticking sound from intake manifold area

Guys, when you first start the car and pop the hood, do you hear a ticking or tapping sound coming from the intake manifold area? You need to listen carefully for it. It ticks every 5-10 seconds and only seems to happen when the engine is cold. Anyone else hear it or know what it is? Thanks.

Normal maybe, but what is it? A valve of some sort.

Probably your rocker arms, all Evo's do it not a prob, unless it gets really bad. Sometimes they get scratched from running dirty oil.

Normal....it only does it at first start up right? If so than it is a lifter. I had the same noise with my 6G72 - RIPP supercharged. Even after the engine was re-built

It's probably less that 5-10 seconds, just start your engine when it's cold, pop the hood and see if you hear it. If it's normal everyone should hear it.

This s completely normal, it is called limter tick, goold old 20 year engine design. The Lifters are lubrucated by a small hole for oil, when cold sometimes takes a whikle for it to get in there. Also low oil pressure at idle, so just rev it slightly, to maybe 2000, and the oil will enter and cuase the lifter tick to becoem much softer.

You think its bad on teh evo, try a 95 2G DSM with 100,000 miles on it.

Just the nature of teh beast.
