Hks F-con V Pro

Hey guys, I'm looking for some serious tuners opinions on the HKS F-CON V PRO. I'm looking to play with my fuel system and when doing so I don't really want to run a piggy back system ANY opinions? How does the HKS system work exactly and what are it's Pros and Cons??? How does it compair to say an older Power FC or such? Please tell what you know about this unit and cost really isn't an factor for me all I want is quality and reliability. My over all plans for the car are the basic full bolt ones as follows: Downpipe, Exhaust, no cats, Intake, grown wires, spark plug wires, Boost Controller, BOV, Hardpipe kit, and intake hard pipe. I might play with a turbo upgrade and Intercooler upgrade as well as cams but those 3 mods are last and i'm not planning on them but may do them if I get bored with those mods. What do you tihnk, I know I can get away with a simple AFC but i'd really like sometihng that is hassle free and fully adjsutable. I've heard ups and downs about piggy back fuel controllers.

It is widely used in Japan, and we have played around with a few over the last year or so on various cars...its main drawback is complete lack of support in the USA, and the fact that you do not get the ability to map it yourself...can only be done by a Master HKS Shop.

As for hassle free, this is one of widest misconceptions about standalone engine management......rarely if ever are they as seemless as the factory system.

Adam,

Correct me if I'm wrong but, don't you have to have a dyno to be HKS pro shop? Do you have a AWD dyno at your shop?

being a HKS master shop and being a HKS dealer are totally different things. almost any performance shop can become a dealer but so far i think there are only 2 master shop in the US. in order to become a master shop, you must go trough HKS training by a HKS tech and they also have many other demands.

I would have gotten the HKS F-Con Pro if the software wasnt exclusively available to authorised dealers only. Meaning you can buy the F-Con Pro but you can never get your hands on the tuning software. This gives us self-tuners no chance to work on our own cars, which is a retarded sales concept imo.

uhh, y not go for a dta, electromotovie, accell, motec, microtech, accell? hks stuff is usually super expensive, and im guesssing fcon v is gonna follow the trend. dta is great and offers options such as boost control, traction control and launch control. about 3g's installed. piggy back stuff will always be piggy back. complete standalone is the best way to go if money is no option. you will be completely and utterly amazed at the possiblilities.

if money does turn out to be a factor - emanage has been used on the evo and has had good results (from what i read). emanage is very veryy affordable compared to real stand alone and compared to multiple individual piggy backs.

just so you will know, the HKS V pro is a stand alone and not a piggy back and it is considred to be one of the top ECUs in the world. i would much rather go with a TEC3 my self only for the support and the fact that i know who can tune it for me ( i hope you are ready Adam!!)

ahh - i was mis informed. i thought it was a piggy back similar to the emanage. but like you said it would make more sense to go with a reputable ecu with backing stateside so that tuning issues and software issues wont be a problem.

There was an Evo 6 here with a HKS F Conv for sale... It supposedly produced 300Kw (400Hp) at the wheel with it in, but less than 260Kw with the stock computer in. The sales person showed me the HKS F-Conv, told me I could have it with the Evo, but that it wasn't street legal.

I never got to verify if that was true. We found the car was a rebirth (stolen) so we wouldn't go near it with a 10 foot barge pole. (I was wondering why such a good Evo 6 was going for like 75% of the cost of a similar model)

there are many kinds of the f-con and some are piggy back and some are stand alone. but non of them will be better than any other ECU if they have no support.

FThe only reason why I like it is cosmetic, and I will buy it if they give the damned software or even sell the damned software to me.
