TB Coolant Bypass Mod - WARNING

I did the coolant bypass mod about 2 months ago. I put vacuum caps on the two coolant lines coming out of the block/head to cap them off and also put small worm clamps to hold these caps on.

DO NOT do this!. Last night one of the caps was shredded by the clamp and left me stranded for two hours. I ended up pulling a hose I was using to shied a vac line to connect the two coolant outlets. Part of this was the clamps fault while I'd say the rubber weakened over time because it's not designed to deal with coolant.

Can anyone recommend a permanent foolproof way of block off these two lines/nipples? I'm thinking a hose connecting the two is probably the best way but I'm wondering if I can get any sort of braided line with 2 connectors that will never come off...

wait, what? I've done this on a few other cars and I just run the two lines (going to and fro the TB) into each other. and cap the TB coolant nipples just to keep crap out of them.

you blocked off the lines? or did I read it wrong?

I thought that if you do this you connect the hoses together? Not cap them off. Use something like this:

That's what I was thinking after this happened... if you connect them with a hose pressure shouldn't build up like it does just capping them off. I would really like to find a braided hose w/connectors so there is no chance of the hose ever busting/leaking.

I capped both sides off lol. Any help finding fittings for a braided line would be sweet. I know it's not really needed but it would give me piece of mind right now

You don't CAP them. You run a by-pass hose.

My guess would be no. All it does is ef up your idle when its cold out (did it on another car, not the Evo).

I simply welded mine shut. I felt that it was the only fail safe and clean solution...

I think your warning is a bit on the drastic side for a bad cap

I was thinking that your throtlle had gotten stock when I read your title

+1 sorta

i used the longer hose to run the water back within the engine & the shorter hose from 1 end of the tb to the other hose end on the tb to keep the dust out.

this way, you dont buy anthing.

besides, a vacuum cap is made for vacuum, not 180f water temp + 15psi pressure

Again this is just a warning NOT to put caps on the two "nipples" coming out of the block/head. You need to use a hose to connect the two.

This is NOT the two hard lines coming off the TB. It's safe to cap these off.

The only reason I posted this is so somebody doesn't end up making the same mistake I did AND to hopefully find a way to use a braided line so I never have to worry again . This was a stupid mistake and I can take the heat for doing it if it saves someone else from blowing up their motor. Thank god I shut down the car immediately and knew exactly what the problem was.
