yea , well, i did manage to buy new bolts from dealer, and had to get a 17mm socket that takes off stripped bolts, i hope it works without any hassle....oh also, when replacing the crank, did you guys just torque the bolts to, i belive it calls for 98 ft lbs, or did you do that as well as add some lock tite to the thread?

Torqued it to 100 ft lbs and used blue lock tight. I ended up striping 3 of the flywheel bolts when I took them off the last time (not sure how hard they where torqued on when I have the motor built). There is not much head and it is real easy to strip them. I ended up having to heat them with a torch to get them off. I used some extraction sockets that I purchased from Sears and they worked great. Just put them on your gun and bang away.

^^ ah ok thanks....what about strippin the inside of the drain plug for the tranny...i have no clue how it happened, i guess there must of been some shavings on top of the thread in the groove, and i cleaned off the drain plug and out it in, and it kept speinning, when i removed it, there was like thread rapped around it, there is still a little thread left in there, so i'mhopping maybe a washer will do the trick.

Another flywheel bolt tip: Make sure you use a high quality SIX point impact socket that fits tightly on the flywheel bolts, and holds on the flats rather than the points. Also make sure you have enough air pressure to drive the impact properly, and hold it FIRMLY on the bolt head, so you don't let it work it's way off when you squeeze the trigger.

The proper way to repair the drain plug would be a helicoil or insert. If it comes out, and the transmission fluid drains, you'll be buying alot more than a minor repair.

hm, never heard of helicoil....after looking it up, looks like it would definately do the trick...do you just kinda jam the coil into the hole and attempt to screw it in after...what necessarily holds that coil to the inside walls of the drain plug whole..

you think autuzone carries this?

NAPA and most similar stores have helicoils or similar devices with other brand names. Most of them come with a special (inexpensive) tool to install it, and specific instructions for use can be obtained from the auto parts store, or on the web from the manufacturer. Helicoils are used for a wide assortment of thread repairs.

Hey, would anyone happen to know where i can find kind of a diagram of the length and thread of the bolts that go into the tranny, didn't notice till now they aren't all the same sizes ones on the driver side..wondering if it really matters how they go back in or not.
