timing belt question
Oh sorry man I thought you had a post earlier about a strange sound in your engine bay, but I just went back and found that thread and it was not you. My bad. I would just go to your local Mitsu dealer and pick up a stock belt, they should have that in stock since it is a maintanance item.

gates is a good option, but i suggest the oem. oem belts are proven to last.
people like to get these "tougher/stronger aftermarket" belts, but all they do is eat the cam gears.

the harder/tougher belts tend to eat through the anodizing on most aftermarket cam gears. Hard anodizing or not, the belts wear through the anodizing.
belts cost less to replace than gears, that is why the oem belt manufacturers make them that way.
on 24 hour engines that i used to build, would just chow through the gears we used, the following year we found a gates belt that would fit our application & the cam gears looked good as new after the daytona 24 hour race.
i dont see what was so funny about my reply

so should we use the gates belts or just stick with OEM?
When I got my timing belt work done at the dealer, I asked the mechanic who always works on my car if those "stronger" belts are better and he basically said the same thing. And that they also tend to skip a gear "tooth." He showed me one from an Evo he had replaced the 2nd time back to stock because this guy had a SS belt and started to skip and come off track but was able to replace it before complete failure.
