I have used my DSM one on my buddies evo 8. Are you guys talking about the one with the 1/4 inch square drive on it or the one you buy from the tool guys? The one from Satin(Mitsu) works for both.

Im not sure. what are the differences. Is there a size difference in the two. I know the one you can buy from lancershop or the dealer has a hex head for a socket at the op.

The one I got from Mitsu has a 1/4 square drive hole in it so you can just use a 1/4 drive ratchet. Works great, but I lost it somewhere about 2 weeks ago???

There are two different tools people can be talking about here. The one that lets you put a small torque wrench on the eccentric pulley to actually set the tension on the belt, or the tool that threads in to compress the tensioner.

The one that threads in is the same for both cars, AMS sells a nice one. The one for the pulley, I have never found the need to use once in the last 5+ years, even though I have access to one.

from my understand the only difference between the two rod type tools is the one for the DSM is much longer due to the access point being at the rear of the engine vs. in the front on the evo. As far as the 2nd tool that is needed to set the intial tension on the belt they are both the same exactly. Im 99% sure that the tool for the auto tensioner from a DSM would work fine though..... btw i did my timing belt using these tools and they are well worth the little cash they cost

The access point is in the same place on both the DSM and EVO motor, it's the motor that is swapped around. The AMS tool is a little short for the EVO but it works, I'm guessing AMS did this so it would clear sheet metal intake manifolds on the DSMs. The mitsu/miller tool would hit most SMIMs.

I used to use a home made tensioner compression tool, but I recently bought AMS'. Nice piece. I also bought the tool that goes between the cam gears from SPX/miller, this can be extremely helpful for those 45 minute cam swaps.
