98% sure it is time for a new clutch. The pressure plate has stops built onto it so that when the disc reaches a certain amount of wear the pressure plate will bottom on the stops rather than clamp on the disc. This means that the clutch will start slipping one day and you can barely drive the car the next.

lancershop has an act street disc for $499 which they say hold 450hp and 475ftlbs. unless u plan to go all out with the mods and drag it all the time that might be a decent clutch but if ur gonna race it alot then u should probably go twin disc or ull be replacing the clutch often. not to be the bearer of bad news but i dontknow if uve check on the install prices for an evo clutch cause its ridiculous. unless ur gonna do it urself its usually between 600 and 800 just for labor depending on the shop. a lightweight flywheel is good but not totally neccesary but def get it resurfaced if u dont get one and theyre around $250 to $350 depending on the make. hope all this helps

Sorry to hear man. Like someone said, labor would cost just as much or more than the clutch. So, hopefully your getting help there or doing it yoursef. Get an ACT and try to make it last alot longer.

If you take it to the stealership or local shops they'll tell you its a solid 6-8 hour job. If you trust your friend and you're confident in his abilties and he'll do it for 300 bucks Id let him do it.
