exhaust quality?

Here's a list of exhausts (all are 3" SS) and their prices:
vishnu
- cat back $795
- DP & high flow cat $675

Buschur
- cat back $450
- DP $300
- high flow cat $150

RMR
- cat back $599
- DP $325

Vivid
- JIC SS catback $699
- Ralliart catback $899

Ultimate racing
- cat back $525
- DP $325
- high flow cat $150

I keep hearing people say "you get what you pay for". So what makes some of these exhausts worth the extra dollars? correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the exhaust just a 3" pipe with a muffler?

Here's a quote from someone else on this forum:
There is "you get what you pay for" ... and then there is "you paid more for what you got."

I have the Buschur 3" turbo back. One difference between all the ones you listed is what is sounds like. I believe most will give you pretty much the same performance. I can't speak for the others but the Buschur system fit well and was pretty easy to install.

Does anyone know of any audio files examples for the ULTIMATE or VIVID exaust?

I've found examples of the other 3 on the internet (given what I've heard, I like the Vishnu best right now), but would like to hear ULTIMATE and VIVID before making a purchase.

Sound is almost as important as build quality to me, I defintely do NOT want some obnoxious raspy tone, or the typical RICER "fartcan" style noises coming from my car... I just want decent exaust to build upon with future mods, and a more performance oriented sound from it when I am hard on the throttle without the OBNOXIOUS buzzy noises the rest of the time.

Don't forget the WORKS Exhale: $399 optimized with exhaust flash program for the ECU or $299 without flash optimization for those customers ordering the WORKS Brain flash at the same time, or for those that are utilizing another method of ECU tuning.

As far as specs go, the Exhale features T-304 stainless construction throughout right down to the hangers, flanges, and welds. We not only had the tooling custom made for the gradual radius 3" mandrel bend featured on the Exhale, we also CAD designed and machined all of the mounting hardware to work perfectly with the stock pieces for easy and quick installation and removal.

The exclusive double-walled, slash cut tip fits the contours of the U.S. EVO bumper skin perfectly and features a beautifully engraved WORKS logo.

I can't think of another axle back system for the money that flows better, looks better, or is lighter than the Exhale system. As far as weight is concerned, by not using a muffler can, the Exhale removes weight at one of the most critical areas on the car from a weight distribution standpoint -- behind the rear axle.

The sound is aggressive and sporty under full throttle applications, but otherwise has none of the drone or boominess often associated with “tuned” exhausts.

As with all of WORKS current products, the Exhale is offered with a 3-year unlimited miles warranty for materials and workmanship.

The first batch of Exhales will be shipping out soon, with additional exhaust components available shortly going all the way back to the turbo to compliment the Exhale.

I just put on the Pruven axle back. It is a very easy install. Took about 10 minutes. It looks and sounds great also. The tip is just a tad past the rear bumper cover though (I'd prefer level or just inside like stock)...no big deal though, it still looks good. There is a noticable power gain in the upper rpm's. It pulls stronger to redline now.

I read on one of the posts here someone mentioned having a custom setup. I assume all the above units are mandrel bent and most custom setup's I have seen are not. Would it be better to have a custom cat-back exhaust done?

Reason I ask is b/c I went w/ namebrand for my Sunfire and paid too much IMO.

Oh, and don't forget about AMS' system. I have been talking to Emil at Renn-Art and he loves his AMS exhaust.

3" SS $675

Personally, I consider weld quality (don't want things breaking) and whether or not the pipes are flanged. I went with the UR. It's VERY nicely put together, welds are excellent and it's flanged. Also, the customer service was great.

Yesterday I saw the Vishnu cat-back in person and I must say, it's probably one of the most quality pieces I have seen. The welds were perfect. Super quality. It seemed to fit perfectly as well. Nice sound too (although I only heard it at idle).

What kind of engine management changes would one need for an axle-back (read "muffler", axle-back just sounds better I guess)? In all seriousness. You hype an "optimized with exhaust flash program for the ECU" reflash for a muffler. Specifically what is optimized?
