what causes a turbo to back spool in high rpm's

Back spool? If the turbo ever started to spin backwards, it would probably wouldn't work anymore (compressor surge from a non functional blow off valve).

Sounds like turbo surge.

Even during compressor surge the turbo won't spin backwards. Intake airflow may reverse in short spurts (surge), but the turbo never spins backwards.
