Iridium spark gapping

I have purchased a set of GReddy Racing Iridium Spark plugs with a heat range of 7. but since i installed them my idle got crappy and its not stable.

some recommended to set the sparks to the proper gap, and i have read that iridium sparks should not be tampered with. so now im confused. do i gap it, or leave it as it is and suffer from the crappy idle?? and if im gonna gap it, whats the best gap for iridiums??

I don't think you should gap Iridiums plugs either. You are going to damage them.

You can gap the Iridiums, but like most have mentioned, with care. Tap with a handle that is made of rubber. Tap slowly, and meassure plug gap after each tap.

Best gap is .25 for most cars. It has worked for me well.

Depends on boost and state of ignition. COP you can alot wider meaning more actually ignition can take place. For the most part the stock ignition needs gapped tighter. The gap on my stock MR plugs was .024 and I had knocked them down to .022 and it was still missing a little bit. I am at .019 and I will see how that does tonight. I need to get my but in gear an put my COP on and then see how far out I can take it

I see that you have an Evo VII, use NGK copper and sell those Greddy. I like NGK a lot better. I can afford to change them out every oil change.

A search or cruising the newbie forums will answer your question easily.

To the OP, dont gap the plugs at all. Iridium plugs aren werent the cost IMHO. Like Forrest Gump 9 said, just grab some copper NGK's and change them every oil change. They dont last as long as Iridium but I find that if gap them to whatever is proper for your setup, your car will run better at higher boost.

^+1.. I have also gone the route of Iridium plugs and then went back to copper... It made it easier to change, as most have already stated, and the iridiums should be your last choice once everything has been dialed in with consistent spark (COP), boost and fuel. Good luck though

+2.

You can get an entire set of NGK copper plugs for half the cost of one iridium plug. If you're running stock boost levels, go with the BPR7ES or BR7ES. The word on the street is that the BR is 1/2 step colder than the BPR, as it doesn't have the protruding tip. If you're pushing about 100 more hp than stock, move to the BR8ES's.

A 0.26 gap should be fine.

Check to make sure your wires and plugs are all in, nice nice. Also make sure the boots on the bottom of the coils and wires snap into the plugs.
