My first thought is that a misfire would show a code. If there is no code, I might consider the diverter valve (BOV). I would get a boost guage (good to have anyway) too.

maybe his situation with the 2500rpm stalling is an isolated incident. didn't want to mention any citrus like fruits to avoid any flaming.

The mechanic at the dealership mentioned it might be something with the code, but he didn't have the proper equipment(?) or information(?) to deal with the problem.

it is a boost leak, plain and simple, you probably blew off the hose, and once you compresse the pipe, it just blows off, but th car still thinks it has boost so it bucks from the excess fuel, what you describe is a boost leak, plain and simple and will cause a HUGE headach if not addressed.

Would this be something that would be easy to spot, because the guys at the dealership couldn't find any hoses that had poped off

hey i had a similar problem for a while. my car would boost to 4,500-5,200 RPM's and then you could hear and feel the turbo loose all boost all the way till i shifted. Then it stopped. i dont know why? Any one else know what im talking about. you could hear the BOV or maybe wastegate release all the boost.

I am having the exact same promblem i am really starting to get pissed about too, it is not going away and you can tell and hear the exact same thing!

Hey raced evo i sent u a PM. it basically says to check to make sure your water sprayer nozzles are operating properly because the water resevoir may be unplugged. push the manual button and have someone else watch the intercooler to make sure it is spraying.

Unless you have some sort of weird pressure leak somewhere, I would be most concerned about the octane booster. Was it an off-the-shelf type with MMT as an active ingredient? The odd o2 sensor readings indicate something is going on with either a bad fueling issue with either overly rich or lean exhaust conditions. MMT coated spark plugs o2 sensors, and cat can result in odd readings. Kind of depends on how much you use (concentration and quantity) , and how often you use it.

There are quite a few threads over on Nasioc regarding octane boosters, and MMT's are just bad news. The EVO manual even specifically says not to use octane boosters w/MMT.

BTW - Techs can tell if you have been using an MMT type booster because it colors the plug electrodes, o2 sensor, etc.. with a red tinged coating.

Toulene and xylene are a better option, but a little more messy to deal with than an over-the-counter booster.

Perhaps this is not the problem, but regardless something to avoid.

Kazoo and raced evo, i'm having the same problem as both of you. After about 5300rpm there seems to be a leak where alot of boost excapes (down to about 13psi by redline in low gears). As I loose boost it CRAWLS to redline, infact I dont even think its capable of getting to redline in 4th gear. I thought it was a simple intercooler hose blowing off at high rpm (since they flex under pressure). After taking all the intercooler hoses, bov, intake tube, turbo vac lines three times and have determined that there is no tears or rips in any hoses and everything is tight...it still does it. I think the turbo is shot - I felt the compresser turbine and it has play in it, none of the other turbos that i've ever owned did that. We will find out the problem on Monday because I have a appointment at the dealership. I'll let you know what they find.
-Zach

EDIT: PMed you Kazoo
