The caliper needs to come off one way or the other. If it is only one side and not the other you could have a sticking caliper which would describe the amount of heat being built up on that side along with any abnormal wear. Possible it could be responcible for noise once the car ras ran along for a while and that particular side gets really hot. This is EXACTLY why I am afraid of voiding my factory warranty.......you never know what is going to happen.

The fading/peeling of the paint seems to be common on Evos. A friend has an E5 and one has an E6 and both have the same problem.

A bad wheel bearing on the right side could also cause all of the above problems. Bearing noise would be the noise. Run out would over heat the brakes, etc...

OR, he had a brake fluid leak. Judging by the pattern of the peeling portion, it looks like leaking brake fluid ate the clear coat to me.

....but the red coloring on the caliper is more of an orangish color now....which often times is an indicator that the brakes have been overheated a few times.
