That (obviously) means there's no tension under the cam, which means more than likely it's busted to hell in there. Have you at least removed the valve cover?

haha .....!!! no not yet....i was so in the moment to just take apart everything to get ready for the cherry picker...

but now that this belt was brought to my attention, i just may take off that valve cover........................after the car show

Still planning on going? LOL... awesome.

You might as well take if off now just to diagnose. Your car doesn't need to be there until when, Friday? That's plenty of time.

my thinking is if the crank comes to a sudden stop like it would if you send a rod through the block then it's bound to tear some teeth off the timing belt. Not sure if that's the cause of the big bang

The piston to valve contact broke the tbelt.

The intake spins freely because all of the valves are bent and there is no cylinder pressure. Furthermore its likely all of the rockers popped out.

^ Ouch.... if the belt broke that probably means all the valves/pistons had contact with each other. Not good.

I've lost cap studs before and tossed a piston into the valves but it never killed the timing belt. In fact the car was still able to hold 85mph running on 3 cylinders until the rod eventually punched through the oil pan.

This motor is done no way to rebuild it. I'd start looking for a cheap replacement 4G63 to toss in there.

I don't understand how the pistons could contact the valves on the intake side and pop the rockers loose but not the exhaust side. At either rate, I've never seen a timing belt ripped to shreds like that!

Each valve has its own rocker. The intake and exhaust valves open at different times.
