breakin question
My experiences have been to keep the RPMs moving around as long they do not exceed 5K. Keeping them in a certain range is the worst thing you could do for the breakin. The other posters are correct, you need the rings to seat correctly. I have not punched my accelator yet into the high rev range, but I have gotten the boost to come up. On the contrary I have upshifted many times keeping the RPMs very low, while high throttle (almost bogging it). Just passed my break-in tonight 605miles. Will give it another couple hundred miles, before I "punch it". In general you want as much variety to the engine without redlines. Anyone in the Phoenix area? Send me a message.
Me and some of my buddies have been wondering if Mitsu doesn't break the motor in to some extent at the factory. Reason being is they 'claim' to factory fill it with Mobil 1. Thing is, you are NOT supposed to break in a motor on synthetic oil, the rings won't seat right. Anyone know if the factory runs the motors before they're installed??
Been driving the car for the first time today. Seems like the AC requires me to add a bit more trottle for a gentle launch. Anyways, I kept rpm's under 4500, downshifting as I brake as the brakes needs to be broken in as well. I did boost a little but not for long time and not too much. Cruising at average 3000-3500 rpm's. When I see the turbo guage go up i ease off the gas. So far its been quite fun driving and Im at 52 miles on my first day. The car also been turning heads and people been following me. Im starting to get real paranoid about parking it in a public area. My evo is definitely going to need a alarm soon.
Shiv recommends takeing out the synthetic and replacing with normal oil for 2000 miles, then change oil and replace with normal for another 2000 miles and after that go to synthetic. I don't know if they have ever mentioned revs or not and by the way the cars that they break in with this procedure have shown a 10 hp increase at the wheels.

has produced they would know this. Is this the first Evo version to run synthetics? Maybe they use a special blend of oil before the first LOF? I know in other cars/manufacturers sometimes they indicate to make sure you do not change the factory oil before the first designated service.
