Question Best Ported stock exhaust manifold?

Buschur Racing has their ported and Jet coated manifold for $195

PPI has their ported and extreme porting (no coating) manifold for $130, they also offer a Internally Ported and Swaintech Coated Manifold $279+65 for the extreme porting.

has anyone compared the above options?

I'd go with swain tech over jet coating, but the downtime sucks with both.

A buddy recently picked up this manifold. It's an oem manifold that was cast after being ported.

"The manifold was then cast in its ported state using ni-resist spheroidal graphite cast iron."

Does this mean that they started with an OEM manifold, then ported it, then made a mold out of it, scrapped the OEM ported one, then cast a new manifold with the ported OEM mold?

What other benefits are there with that, other than the ni-resist spherical... material?

But the flow's not better than a ported OEM manifold, right? I can see this being a good thing if used manifolds were really expensive, but they're not.

Yes, so essentially every manifold made thereafter is an exact copy of that ported OEM.

One of the main benefits is the fact that you get better top end flow with a ported manifold opposed to an oem manifold, just as with any other aftermarket manifold.

FP offers great turn around time for most porting/coating. They were the only place that could get something back to me within a 2 week time frame. Not sure if they do manifolds though.

Used manifolds aren't very expensive, but new ones are in the $350 range.

I'm not sure if you've owned any DSM's, but exhaust manifolds don't generally last forever before cracking. Buying a used manifold that has 40k miles then porting it is going to be less reliable than buying a new manifold that was cast in a ported state.

Plus the fact that theres no turn around time necessary considering you don't have to send your manifold out.

tubular manifolds have a tendancy to crack but I dont think you have to worry about a log manifold like the stock one to ever crack. I dont think you will see too much increase in power on a ported and polished manifold either. maybe 5 hp if you are lucky but it still may help spool the turbo a little faster or give a little better throttle respnse

The best exhaust manifold porting? I think it is WOT. PM him, as he can port exhaust manifolds for you. He used to build ALMS, IRL and CART racing engines. He knows what he's doing, plus he is a perfectionist.

Yeah, you don't get much of an increase down low, but there is a difference in power in the upper rpms due to less restriction.

Currently live in CA and need the stealth option. Got headers on it now but I'm needing to register the EVO here in CA within the next couple of months. I'm pretty sure CARB would notice the shiny header pipes.

I had my manifold ported by PPI.

I then sent my manifold to PerformanceCoatings.com. Their turnaround time is LESS THAN A WEEK everytime. Ive sent over 15 items to them (for friends and selling purposes). By far the best turn around time ever for a ceramic coating place.
