Tanabe says that the Touring Medalion is 3" all the way through except that it necks down very slightly (2.9" or something like that) at the flange where it meets with the cat/TP.
i +1 this. i live round the "good ole boys" w their jacked up trucks loud as hell n u cant even hear urself think when harleys go by, yet i get pulled over while driving like a normal person cruisin n i get pulled n ticketed. i hve buschur tbe w the bullet no cat, i was thinkin bout gettin resonated pipe how much would that help?
ive read somewhere on this forum that a person looked inside the piping and it was smaller than the 3 inch diameter, i think inside the resonator and muffler
that is the main reason why it is quiet

I've read that about the Greddy Evo 2 many times, but not the Tanabe. I'd be interested in seeing the link.
The OP mentioned the option of taking off the muffler. Buschur's CB has the hangers on the main pipe and the muffler has a slip fit for easy removal.
Some venues I race at have very strict monitored 91db level, which is why I went with the quiet Magaflow version.
Ive got the Tanabe Medallion Touring and love it.
Even with a test pipe, its not that loud. I was the quietest of all the guys at the dyno day. But it does flow well.
Made 352/353

As always with these threads, no one mentions the Injen...
When I was looking at getting an exhaust I did research for 6 months, part of that involved listening to every single exhaust I could at JGTC - GTLive '04, the quietest exhaust at the time was the Injen one, though it is entirely possible that there are even more quiet/more free flowing ones. I never once had anyone even recognize that I had an aftermarket exhaust without going WOT or revving the engine.

Greddy EVO2 for the win.
You'll lose a few hp with the neck downs but sound is very tolerable with HFC/TP and DP...no drone at highway either. The fitment and quality are great also. The tip looks nice and the can stays tucked higher in the rear so it's pretty stealthy. The weight is obviously going to be heavier than others cause it's quieter and stainless. Price may be a little high but if you look for deals you can't go wrong with this exhaust.
